MP seeks action on stalled rail projects and improved services across Gurugram constituency

Gurugram — Gurugram MP and Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh has submitted a multi-point rail development agenda to the Railway Ministry seeking accelerated work on station redevelopment, new train halts, safety infrastructure and restoration of services across his Lok Sabha constituency, The Tribune reported.

The MP flagged a number of long-pending and practical issues, including the 65-km Farrukhnagar–Charkhi Dadri rail line via Jhajjar, which was surveyed and approved in the 2015–16 Railway Budget but has not seen execution even after seven years. He also reiterated a demand first raised in 2021 for a washing line at Rewari Junction, a station that was once the country’s largest metre-gauge junction with six directional links.

Rao sought a range of operational and passenger-oriented improvements at Rewari station, including halts for the Duronto Express, Rajdhani, Vande Bharat Bikaner and Sampark Kranti trains, addition of foot-overbridges and better maintenance of the station’s steam engine heritage museum, which he described as neglected, according to The Tribune.

  • Acceleration of Farrukhnagar–Charkhi Dadri line execution (65 km).
  • Construction of a washing line at Rewari Junction.
  • New halts and improved facilities at Rewari, Pataudi Road, Patli and other stations.

At Pataudi Road station, Rao sought restoration of the pre-Covid Ranichauri Express halt and additional stoppages, plus construction of underpasses and a flyover to ease passenger movement. He also asked for the extension of an existing foot-overbridge at Patli station and requested a foot-overbridge near Gurugram’s Bhimgarh Kheri cremation ground to improve local access and safety.

“The list of requests ranges from restoration of halts and additional stoppages to safety upgrades and heritage upkeep,” The Tribune reported.

Rao additionally proposed Sunday DEMU services to Farrukhnagar via Garhi Harsaru and Ichhapuri, measures likely to affect weekend commuters and local tourism to the historic Farrukhnagar area. The MP’s memorandum emphasised both operational connectivity and passenger amenities.

These demands touch several aspects of rail planning: new line construction, station infrastructure, scheduling and heritage conservation. The Farrukhnagar–Charkhi Dadri line is the most significant project mentioned, having been part of the Railway Budget nearly a decade ago but remaining unimplemented. Progress on such a line would alter regional connectivity in south Haryana by creating an additional east–west rail link that could relieve pressure on existing routes.

Station / Project Requested Action
Farrukhnagar–Charkhi Dadri line (65 km) Accelerate execution of the surveyed and approved alignment
Rewari Junction Washing line; halts for premium trains; foot-overbridges; upkeep of steam locomotive museum
Pataudi Road Restore Ranichauri Express halt; add stoppages; construct underpasses and flyover
Patli & Bhimgarh Kheri Extend foot-overbridge at Patli; construct foot-overbridge near cremation ground

Railway projects involve multiple stages — survey, sanction, land acquisition, funding allocation and construction — and the MP’s representations aim to draw the ministry’s attention to both completed technical clearances and stalled execution. If implemented, the requests could bring practical benefits: more train halts would increase options for local travellers, additional foot-overbridges and underpasses would improve pedestrian safety, and a washing line would aid operational turnaround at a busy junction.

The Tribune report did not include an immediate response from the Railway Ministry or details of any timelines for action. The MP’s intervention revives issues that affect daily commuters, weekend travellers and the preservation of rail heritage across the Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency.
