A new species of montane toad, Duttaphrynus phawngpui, has been described from Phawngpui National Park (Blue Mountain) in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, researchers report in the journal Taprobanica.

Discovery and identification

The population was recorded at about 2,144 metres above sea level and, so far, is known only from its type locality in Phawngpui National Park, the authors say. The newly described toad is relatively small, with snout-to-vent lengths of 47.72 mm to 56.26 mm among the specimens examined.
