Campus gathers for flag-hoisting, cultural presentations and security upgrade
WARANGAL: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal marked the 80th Independence Day on Friday with a mix of ceremonial and cultural events and a modest push on campus security and sustainability, The Hans India reported.
The observance at the Time Square in front of the Administration Building opened with the national flag being unfurled by Director Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi, followed by the national anthem. Cadets from the National Cadet Corps and security personnel performed a march-past and parade that drew applause from those present, according to the report.
- Ceremonial: Flag-hoisting and march-past by NCC and security staff.
- Cultural: Patriotic songs, poetry recitations, short plays, dances and a ramp walk at the Ambedkar Learning Centre.
- Recognition: Teachers, staff and students were felicitated for distinguished service and competition wins.
- Security: Inauguration of a Security and Surveillance Control Room at the Post Office on campus.
- Environment: Screening of a short film on sustainability and a tree-planting ceremony at Gandhi Hall.
In his address, Prof. Subudhi urged students, faculty and staff to uphold their responsibilities towards nation-building, innovation and technological development and to contribute to a progressive, self-reliant India, the report said. Teachers and staff who had given distinguished service to the institute were honoured and students who excelled in various contests were felicitated.
"patriotic fervour"
Cultural events staged at the Ambedkar Learning Centre were used as a platform to showcase student talent through varied presentations — from patriotic songs and poetry to short drama pieces, dance and a ramp walk. Organisers described the lineup as reflecting students’ creativity, skill and patriotism.
The institute also presented certificates to recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards and winners across several competitions including quiz, painting, cross-country, essay-writing and debate, the report added. A short film on sustainability was screened to underline the campus community’s commitment to environmental protection.

The inauguration of a Security and Surveillance Control Room at the campus Post Office was highlighted as part of measures to strengthen safety on site. The report did not provide technical details of the surveillance system or staffing arrangements. The day’s formalities concluded with a tree-planting ceremony at Gandhi Hall, which organisers framed as underscoring NIT Warangal’s pledge to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The event brought together students, faculty and security personnel for a blend of ceremonial observance, cultural expression and modest institutional upgrades. The range of activities — from honours and certificates to a sustainability film and planting drive — reflects the campus’ combined focus on academic recognition, civic memory and environmental awareness, the report said.
As Warangal continues to host a network of higher-education institutions that contribute to Telangana’s technology and skills ecosystem, such campus ceremonies remain focal points for student engagement and local civic life. The NIT programme underlined routine security and green initiatives alongside traditional Independence Day rituals.
