Husnabad, Siddipet — A 62-year-old government employee scheduled to retire this month was allegedly killed at his home in Husnabad town on Sunday night after a dispute over retirement money and property, police said on Monday.
Incident and arrest
The deceased has been identified as Venkatesham, a Commercial Tax Officer posted in Asifabad. Police said his wife, identified as Rajamani, who works as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), was taken into custody after the attack.
According to the police, the couple had been involved in repeated arguments in the weeks leading up to his retirement regarding the distribution of assets and the handling of his retirement benefits. The disagreement reportedly escalated during a confrontation at their residence on Sunday night.
During the altercation, Rajamani allegedly struck Venkatesham with a pestle, inflicting critical injuries. He was later declared dead. Police shifted the body for post-mortem examination and registered a case. Investigators are recording statements from family members and others familiar with the dispute.
Police statement and probe
“The dispute intensified as his retirement approached, with disagreements over how the retirement money and assets would be handled,” police said, adding that the exact circumstances and motive were under investigation. They said further details would be available after the post-mortem and the ongoing inquiries.
"The exact circumstances and motive behind the death are being investigated," police said.
Investigating officers said they were questioning the accused and taking statements from family members and neighbours. Forensic teams and local police personnel are conducting the usual procedures in custodial interrogation and scene examination.
Local context and wider implications
The alleged killing places renewed focus on domestic disputes involving financial matters, especially when retirement and property division become contentious. Incidents involving family disagreements over pensions or lump-sum retirement payments have periodically surfaced in district police records, underlining the potential for familial tensions to escalate into violence.
Husnabad is part of Siddipet district, which has seen an expanded deployment of policing resources in recent years to address both urban and rural crime. While the present case appears to stem from a private family dispute, the police response reflects standard procedures for violent deaths: securing the scene, arrest of the accused where prima facie evidence exists, and conducting a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
What authorities are doing
- Case registered at the local police station and initial FIR filed.
