Nagpur, Maharashtra — Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will be in Nagpur on August 15 to lead the Independence Day programme organised by the Lokmat Media Group and to interact with students and youngsters, event organisers said in a statement on Tuesday. The programme will be held at Kasturchand Park, where the media group had earlier erected a 200-foot national flag.
Programme, timing and local partners
According to official information released by the organisers, Bhagwat will perform the flag-hoisting ceremony at 9.30 am at Kasturchand Park. The ceremony will be followed by a special session in which he will interact with young people on the theme
"The contribution of youth to India's bright future", the release said.
The initiative has been organised jointly by the Lokmat Media Group and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, the statement added. The concept for the event is credited to Dr Vijay Darda, chairman of the Lokmat editorial board and a former member of the Rajya Sabha.
Who will attend
The Lokmat release listed several dignitaries expected to attend the programme. They include Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Nagpur mayor Neeta Thakare and municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar. The statement added that eminent personalities from various fields will also be present.

Local context and recent outreach
The visit comes days after Bhagwat's interaction with 'Gen‑Z' at a high-profile event held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai on August 6. The Mumbai outreach, organised in partnership with the International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) to mark its 15th anniversary, brought together more than 2,000 high school and college students aged 15 to 19 from over 100 cities, the Lokmat release said.
The Mumbai event's national profile and the fact that Nagpur hosts the RSS headquarters have focused attention on the Nagpur session. The media group said the earlier interaction generated wide public debate nationally and internationally. The outreach in Nagpur is being organised against a background of nationwide student agitations and controversies over examination leaks and education reforms, the release noted.

Organisers said the programme was conceptualised to create a forum for young people to engage on issues such as jobs, technology and national development, and to bridge generational conversations, according to the Lokmat statement. Local administration and civic bodies will be involved in managing the event, the release added.
The presence of state and municipal leaders and the choice of Kasturchand Park — a regular site for large civic gatherings in Nagpur — mean the event is likely to draw substantial local interest. Citizens and students planning to attend are advised to follow any instructions issued by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the organisers for security and crowd management.
Further logistical details and the list of speakers for the special session were not detailed in the Lokmat release. The media group said the Nagpur programme is part of a broader outreach effort and will focus on youth engagement in the run-up to national events later this year.
