Nagpur gears up for India’s largest integrated Mahindra manufacturing hub
Nagpur: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has moved into the execution phase of its largest greenfield manufacturing project, taking possession of roughly 800 acres of land at Additional Butibori in Nagpur for the first package of a planned 1,500-acre automobile and tractor manufacturing complex, the company said on Monday.
The project carries a committed investment of ₹15,000 crore and, when completed, will be the automaker’s largest integrated facility in India. According to the company’s published details, the plant is being designed as a flexible manufacturing ecosystem capable of producing vehicles with internal-combustion engines (ICE), battery-electric powertrains (EV) and other future technologies.
"The plant is not being built as a powertrain-specific factory," the company said, underscoring the facility’s flexibility to handle ICE, EV and future platforms.
Mahindra’s projections for the Nagpur complex indicate an eventual annual installed capacity exceeding 6 lakh units — comprising over 5 lakh passenger vehicles/SUVs and 1 lakh tractors. The company has scheduled production to begin in 2028, subject to statutory clearances and execution milestones.
Supplier park, skilling centre and local impact
The Nagpur facility will be complemented by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad area), which the statement says will not only supply the new plant but also support Mahindra’s existing facilities at Chakan and Nashik. In addition, Mahindra plans to establish a skilling centre in Nagpur to develop the workforce for mechanical operations, welding, painting and other shopfloor roles.

Local economy and employment prospects
For Nagpur and the Vidarbha industrial belt, the Mahindra project represents a major industrial anchor. The company’s statement emphasises building people capability: it intends to draw on experienced associates from its existing plants and run a selection process over the next two to three years for roles at the new facility. The proposed skilling centre will be used to train local youth and workers in manufacturing trades.
