VIJAYAWADA: The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) on Wednesday approved 25 investment proposals with a combined value of ₹2,08,406 crore, officials said, in a development the government said will generate direct employment for 21,627 people.

Numbers, sectors and job impact

The 20th SIPB meeting, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat, cleared projects spanning established and emerging industries. Officials noted a deliberate emphasis on technology- and climate-related sectors such as green ammonia, lithium batteries and robotics, which the state hopes will boost local value addition and long-term industrial capability.

In addition to approving the proposals, the Chief Minister directed administrative action on rolling out incentives, instructing officials that industrial incentives must be credited into escrow accounts from December. He asked departments to realistically assess the level of incentives the state can provide, given fiscal and implementation constraints.

Administrative directives and public messaging

Naidu called for stronger public communication about projects coming up across Andhra Pradesh, warning that misinformation by some groups could portray new units as polluting and stall development. He also asked officials to continuously monitor industrial growth and analyse the value addition these projects deliver to the state ecosystem.

"Incentives are essential to promote industries. The government should focus on determining the extent of incentives that can realistically be provided," he said.

The Chief Minister specifically asked officials to address concerns about data centres' water use, citing a projected requirement of 3.5 TMC of water for facilities being established in North Coastal Andhra. To ensure reliable supply, he said abundant water would be provided to industries in Visakhapatnam through gravity flow from the Polavaram Left Canal.

What the clearances mean for Andhra's industrial push

The SIPB approvals represent both capital mobilisation and a signal of the state government's industrial priorities. By focusing on sectors such as green ammonia and battery manufacturing, the state is aligning with national and global shifts towards decarbonisation and electrification. Officials were also asked to study measures to attract firms in robotics, a sector that can raise productivity in manufacturing and services.

Officials at the meeting were instructed to create greater awareness among citizens about the projects and their benefits. The Chief Minister underlined the need for distinctive architecture in upcoming hospitality projects to enhance tourism appeal.

Practical implications for investors and citizens

  • Incentive disbursal: The instruction to credit incentives into escrow accounts from December aims to provide clarity and security to investors on support flows.
  • Water planning: Explicit planning for industrial water — including use of the Polavaram Left Canal — seeks to allay local concerns, particularly in Visakhapatnam and North Coastal Andhra.
  • Public outreach: Government will step up communication to counter misinformation on pollution and other impacts associated with new industries.

The SIPB clearance adds to the state's ongoing effort to attract large-scale investment while steering projects towards sectors considered strategically important for future growth. Officials will now move to finalise implementation details, monitor environmental and resource implications, and coordinate with line departments to operationalise the approved proposals.
