Andhra Pradesh tops nation in AI and big data certifications under FutureSkills PRIME

Government data shows Andhra Pradesh has 108,895 certified professionals in AI and big data from FutureSkills PRIME, giving the state a sizeable ready-to-hire talent pool as it positions Visakhapatnam and Amaravati for tech growth.

Andhra Pradesh leads in certified AI and big data talent

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the national leader in certified talent for artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics (BDA) under the Union government's FutureSkills PRIME initiative, according to data tabled by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in the Lok Sabha. The figures show 108,895 Andhra Pradesh residents were certified out of 153,783 who enrolled in the AI and BDA modules over the past three years.

The FutureSkills PRIME programme, implemented jointly by MeitY and NASSCOM, seeks to skill and certify talent across emerging technology areas. Nationwide, the scheme has recorded over 3.4 million registrations and more than 1.3 million certifications, with 86% of participants coming from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, the ministry's submission said.

How Andhra Pradesh compares with other states

Although Tamil Nadu had a higher total enrolment for the AI and BDA tracks at 1,61,190 candidates, Andhra Pradesh outpaced it on completions. Major technology states — Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka — recorded substantially lower certified counts in these modules, the data shows.

State Certified (AI & BDA) Enrolled (AI & BDA)
Andhra Pradesh 108,895 153,783
Tamil Nadu Not specified (lower than AP) 1,61,190
Maharashtra 45,277 Not specified
Telangana 45,250 Not specified
Karnataka 34,790 Not specified

State initiatives and institutional support

The data highlights Andhra Pradesh's concentrated skilling push in emerging technologies. The state's footprint under FutureSkills PRIME extends beyond AI and BDA: total enrolments across all emerging technology modules — including the internet of things (IoT), cybersecurity, blockchain and augmented/virtual reality — have crossed 4,34,000.

Institutional backing in Andhra Pradesh includes the NIELIT Tirupati Centre, which the submission identifies as developing specialised curricula and industry-aligned training. The state also hosts 22 Digital Literacy Course facilitation centres and two accredited skill centres, which together form the operational backbone for rolling out courses and assessments.

Implications for industry and jobseekers

A certified pool of more than 1 lakh professionals in AI and big data gives Andhra Pradesh a visible advantage when it comes to attracting global firms and research centres, the ministry's figures suggest. The state government has been positioning Visakhapatnam as a technology and AI hub, while Amaravati is being planned as a digital-first administrative centre — both moves that could be reinforced by a deepening talent base.

For students and early-career professionals, higher completion rates in certification programmes indicate improved course completion and assessment outcomes locally. For employers, the large certified cohort could reduce onboarding time for data and AI roles, provided certifications align with organisational hiring standards.

  • Scale: AP recorded 108,895 AI/BDA certifications from 153,783 enrolments.
  • Broader reach: 4,34,000+ enrolments across multiple emerging tech modules in the state.
  • National context: FutureSkills PRIME has 3.4 million registrations and 1.3 million certifications nationwide.

What the numbers do and do not show

The ministry's data offers a measure of certification quantity but does not provide details on the employment outcomes, salary impact or sector-wise absorption of certified candidates. It also does not break down completion rates by district or by individual training partners. These are important indicators for firms and policymakers seeking to translate certification numbers into concrete job creation and industry investment.

Still, the concentration of certified talent is likely to be a factor companies consider when choosing locations for product development, research or back-office operations. The state-level infrastructure — curriculum development through NIELIT Tirupati and a network of facilitation and accredited centres — provides a delivery mechanism to sustain further skilling drives.

As FutureSkills PRIME continues, stakeholders in Andhra Pradesh will be watching whether the certified cohort converts into measurable job growth, start-up activity and research investments in AI and data sciences.
