Pepperdine Graziadio Business School has named 14 startups as its 2026 Most Fundable Companies after a competition that drew more than 2,100 applicants and brought entrepreneurs, investors and educators from all 50 states to the university’s Malibu campus on 23 September.
Pathway to global prize
The showcase, now in its ninth year, fully integrated the Startup World Cup Los Angeles Regional for the first time. That alignment gave each of the 14 Most Fundable Companies the chance to pitch before a live panel of judges and to advance to the international stage where a $1 million investment prize will be awarded at the Startup World Cup Grand Finale in San Francisco.
Enexor Energy, LLC, a firm that provides renewable energy solutions to divert organic waste from landfills, was selected to advance to the Grand Finale. The event builds on a history of crossover success between the two programmes: EarthGrid, a 2022 Most Fundable Companies winner, subsequently won the 2024 Startup World Cup Grand Finale World Championship.
“Being named a Most Fundable Company is a significant achievement, because these companies have been evaluated against many of the same fundamentals that professional investors consider when assessing opportunities,” said Craig Everett, finance professor and executive director of the Most Fundable Companies programme and the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project, according to the university release.
Winners and audience recognition
The 2026 cohort spans sectors that investors have been watching closely: healthcare, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, clean energy, transportation, consumer products and advanced technology. In addition to Enexor’s advancement, three startups were highlighted as fan favourites: AcQumen Medical, Tiny Sprouts Foods and SetaTech USA.
- Scale of interest: 2,100+ applicants and participation from all 50 states underline both broad dealflow and geographic diversity.
- Investor-style evaluation: Winners were assessed against investor fundamentals — business model strength, team and traction — as stated by programme leadership.
- Global opportunity: Integration with Startup World Cup offers a route to the San Francisco Grand Finale and a $1 million prize.
The panel of judges included investors, venture advisors and Pepperdine faculty; the event is designed to mirror the diligence and pitch conditions entrepreneurs will face when seeking institutional capital. That assessment framework is intended to give successful entrants credibility when they approach venture capital firms, strategic partners or corporate buyers.

What it means for founders and investors
For founders, recognition as a Most Fundable Company offers more than a trophy: it provides visibility to investors who assess many more deals than they can fund. Winning can shorten the time needed to secure follow-on financing by signalling that a start-up has been vetted on key investor criteria.
For investors and corporate partners, the showcase serves as a concentrated deal-sourcing venue. The mix of sectors represented — especially clean energy and AI — aligns with areas that continue to attract institutional capital and strategic corporate investment.
Enexor’s advancement to the Startup World Cup Grand Finale will place it in a global field competing for the top investment prize. The university release noted the collaboration between Pepperdine and the Startup World Cup builds on a successful history and offers a path for American start-ups to test their propositions against international peers.
The Most Fundable Companies programme emphasises fundamentals that matter to professional investors: robust business models, experienced leadership teams and demonstrable traction. For the 14 winners, the immediate prize is exposure; the longer-term value will be whether that exposure translates into capital, partnerships and scalable revenue — outcomes that determine whether a start-up can survive and create jobs.
