Estonia has opened an educational and methodological centre for preschool teachers in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, creating a dedicated space for professional development, practical teaching methods and technology-supported early learning. The new EDUHUB is hosted at Preschool Education Institution No. 25 and covers 125 square metres.
Practical centre for early childhood professionals
The centre was inaugurated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and established as part of the project “Development of Zhytomyr’s Methodological Competence Center in Early Childhood Education,” according to Ukrinform. Financial support for the project included contributions from the Estonian Center for International Development, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the City of Tallinn, delivered in partnership with the Zhytomyr City Council. The Tallinn Teachers’ House was the implementing partner.
According to project officials, a total of €330,000 was allocated to create the EDUHUB. The funds were used to renovate the premises and organise training sessions for education professionals, with a focus on strengthening educators’ skills rather than solely improving physical infrastructure.
“The most important things are not the building and the equipment, but the educators. EDUHUB will be a place where they can gain new knowledge and pass it on to children,” said Andrea Kivi, Executive Director of the Estonian Center for International Development, as reported by Ukrinform.
Curriculum focus and teacher mentoring
The EDUHUB is designed to be a space where Ukrainian preschool educators can master modern approaches and share experience with colleagues. It will concentrate on several priority areas including STEAM education and robotics, learning through play, developing practical life skills in children, basic first aid, and inclusive education to better support children with special educational needs.
As part of the rollout, 19 mentor educators from Zhytomyr’s preschools were trained to support dissemination of the new methods locally. Project statements emphasise that investing in educators is an investment in the future of children.
