The World Health Expo (WHX) 2026, formerly Africa Health, will return to Johannesburg from 6–8 October. Those three requirements form the core of discussions planned at WHX 2026, reflecting concerns that technology which looks promising in the lab does not always translate into improved patient outcomes when deployed at scale.

  • pathways for local clinical validation to ensure algorithms work for South African populations;
  • commercial models that balance innovation incentives with patient safety.

The emphasis on local validation and oversight recognises that algorithms trained on non-representative datasets can underperform or introduce bias when applied to different populations. That problem is especially acute in diverse health systems where disease profiles, genetic backgrounds and care pathways differ.
