CRPF, school students carry national flags through central Srinagar
Srinagar: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel together with a large gathering of schoolchildren took part in a Tiranga rally through the city on Tuesday as part of the Union government’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day.
The procession began from Palladium Chowk, moved through central city locations including Lal Chowk and Regal Chowk, and concluded at the Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower), organisers said. Participants carried the national flag and played patriotic songs during the march.
“We always carry this feeling that we have to do something for the country, and safeguard it. Through this rally, we want to inculcate the feelings of patriotism in the youth,”
The remarks were attributed to CRPF Assistant Commandant Prahlad Singh, who said the event was intended to instil a sense of patriotism among young people and to remind them of the sacrifices made to secure the country’s freedom.
The city rally was one of several such events in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Authorities reported a Tiranga bike rally in Shopian district — flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Shishir Gupta and SSP Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary — which passed through the town along a designated route and returned to the District Police Lines. The Shopian event was organised jointly by the district administration and police and included officials, youth and other citizens, according to an official spokesperson.

Officials emphasise patriotism and public participation
Speaking to reporters, Assistant Commandant Prahlad Singh framed the Srinagar march as an opportunity to familiarise young people with the history of India’s freedom struggle and the value of the national flag. He said the rally was aimed at encouraging respect for the flag and an awareness of sacrifices made for the country.
In Shopian, the district administration’s account said the bike rally covered key junctions — including Batapora Bus Stand, Four Way Chowk, Clock Tower, Hospital Road and Police Station Road — before returning to the police lines, and that officials rode alongside participants to lead the procession.
Authorities across the region have been organising multiple events under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to encourage citizens to display the national flag at their homes and in public spaces ahead of the 15 August observance. Local administrations typically coordinate with police and educational institutions for such processions to ensure orderly movement and public safety.
The Srinagar rally drew schoolchildren in significant numbers, reflecting preparations by educational institutions to mark national observances. No untoward incident was reported during the city procession, and organisers said the event passed off peacefully.
As Independence Day approaches, officials in urban and district centres of the Valley have stepped up public engagements and awareness activities, including flag rallies and bike processions, aimed at promoting civic participation and national symbolism.
