Chennai, 13 August: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday formalised 97 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) representing commitments of more than ₹67,000 crore at the inaugural Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026, officials said. The agreements were signed in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Industries Minister S Keerthana.
Major investment push across multiple sectors
State officials said the projects covered a mix of greenfield and brownfield initiatives spanning automotive, renewables, life sciences, electronics, research and development and data centres. The government estimates that the investments will result in employment opportunities for more than 1 lakh people.
Industries Minister S Keerthana described the outcome as a validation of investor confidence in Tamil Nadu's workforce and infrastructure. She said the MoUs signed so far since the new government took office would take cumulative commitments in the first 100 days past ₹1 lakh crore, generating over 1.20 lakh jobs.
“We have a strong mix of green field and brown field capital – consisting of new investors choosing Tamil Nadu for the first time, and companies already having their presence and expanding because they have experienced our workforce, infrastructure, to invest more in the state,”
The minister added:
“This is on an average of ₹1,000 crore of commitment capital for every single day we have been in office... Some would call this a significant milestone, but for us the number is only a small part of the story. Your confidence in our governance is the important story.”
Scale and context
Officials noted the 97 pacts signed on Thursday raised the total number of MoUs since the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government assumed office to 104, with aggregate commitments approaching ₹1 lakh crore. The government has set an ambitious long‑term vision to steer the state towards a USD 1.5 trillion economy.
While detailed project-level disclosures were not immediately released, authorities indicated the mix included both new entrants into the state and expansions by established industrial players. The minister highlighted the combination of capital expenditure and technology-led projects on display at the conclave.
Local impact and practical considerations
Officials said projects in automotive and electronics are likely to strengthen the state's manufacturing base and supply chains, while investments in renewables and life sciences could diversify employment and investment profiles in peri-urban and rural industrial corridors.
For potential employees and local communities, the government indicated that skilling and labour deployment plans would be coordinated through district administrations and the state's industry facilitation agencies. Investors at the conclave were offered handholding and single-window clearances through the state’s existing investment facilitation mechanisms.

Outlook and next steps
The conclave was billed by the state as the first major investor engagement by the present government and intended to catalyse follow‑through on project clearances and land allotments. Authorities said further details, including investment timelines and district-level locations, would be shared as agreements move into implementation.
Investors at the event ranged from manufacturers seeking to expand local production to technology and services firms exploring data‑centre and R&D opportunities. State departments responsible for industry, energy and labour were scheduled to coordinate with businesses to expedite permissions and address infrastructure needs.
The government’s emphasis on a blend of new entrants and follow‑on expansions reflects a strategy to both broaden Tamil Nadu’s investor base and deepen industrial capacity in established clusters.
