ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Arunachal Pradesh observed the 80th Independence Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, cultural programmes and community events across the State as elected representatives, security forces and civil agencies highlighted development gains and local priorities.
Local announcements and citizen-focused commitments
At Tezu in Lohit district, MLA Dr Mohesh Chai hoisted the National Flag and outlined progress in roads, healthcare and connectivity, while announcing targeted financial support for civil service aspirants and local recruitment candidates. He announced ₹2 lakh assistance for candidates who clear the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination and ₹50,000 for those qualifying the APPSC Preliminary Examination; he also pledged support for APSSB aspirants.
In Basar, Leparada, MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi urged promotion of local agriculture, indigenous food products and entrepreneurship, describing her vision as an “Atmanirbhar Leparada.”
At Pasighat in East Siang, MLA Tapi Darang called for collective action to build a developed, peaceful and drug-free region as part of the State’s celebrations.
Security and public honours in the spotlight
March-pasts by contingents including the ITBP, Assam Rifles, Arunachal Pradesh Police and NCC were staged in several districts. In Khonsa, Tirap, Minister for Environment & Forests and DoTCL Wangki Lowang hoisted the flag at Nehru Stadium, underlining the need to balance infrastructure development with protection of indigenous heritage and the environment. The programme there included departmental stalls and a performance by the 44 Assam Rifles Jazz Band.
At Yingkiong, Upper Siang, MLA-cum-Advisor to the Chief Minister Alo Libang unfurled the Tricolour and emphasised the State’s contribution to the national goal of Viksit Bharat@2047. Several local functionaries and achievers were felicitated, including newly appointed Gaon Burahs, CBSE toppers, best teachers and schools.
Health sector recognitions and public-health achievements
Forty-two health workers were honoured in Upper Siang for attaining NQAS (National Quality Assurance Standards) certification. Officials also recognised villages that have maintained a TB-free status, signalling continuing public-health emphasis in the State’s outreach programmes.
High-altitude Tiranga Trek marks a first
In a notable event under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Dibang Valley hosted a special Tiranga Trek from Anini to Pomo Post. Led by Deputy Commissioner Bekir Nyorak, the expedition included members of Mountain Mavericks, the Indian Army and ITBP. The Tricolour was reportedly hoisted for the first time at Pomo Post at about 3,005 metres and later at Pomo Lake at approximately 3,850 metres, marking a high-altitude symbol of the day’s celebrations.
"The expedition led by the DC and uniformed agencies hoisted the Tricolour at strategic high-altitude locations as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign," the report said.
