Prime Minister's programme in Ajmer covers infrastructure, drinking water and women's health
An official statement reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ajmer, Rajasthan tomorrow to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a package of development projects valued at more than ₹16,680 crore. The projects span urban development, drinking water supply, roads, irrigation, energy and industrial infrastructure and are expected to have implications across Rajasthan's connectivity and public services.
The programme will also include the national launch of a campaign for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination targeted at girls aged 14 years. The initiative is being presented as a preventive-health measure to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer among women.
- Sectoral focus: urban development, drinking water, roads, irrigation, energy, industrial infrastructure.
- Major health initiative: nationwide HPV vaccination campaign for girls aged 14 years.
- Energy and transmission: inauguration and foundation-laying of transmission systems and grid substations to evacuate renewable power from Rajasthan.
The statement listed specific road and expressway works to be inaugurated or whose foundations will be laid during the visit. These include the 4-lane greenfield expressway from Bandikui to Jaipur, a 6-lane access-controlled green highway (package 7) on the Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor, and an 8-lane carriageway in package 14 of the Delhi–Vadodara Access-Controlled Greenfield expressway. In addition, foundation stones will be laid for the 4-lane elevated road in Jodhpur City and the Malabmori–Mangrol–Baran state highway in Baran district.
Drinking water projects named for foundation work include four packages of the Nonera Major Drinking Water Project and five packages of the Parwan Akawad Major Drinking Water Project. These are presented as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and clean drinking water for all.
On energy infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate transmission systems to evacuate power from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Rajasthan and will lay the foundation for several grid substations: five 220 kV substations and two 400 kV substations along with associated transmission lines, according to the release.
| Project type | Example projects | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Roads & Expressways | Bandikui–Jaipur 4-lane; Amritsar–Jamnagar 6-lane (pkg 7); Delhi–Vadodara 8-lane (pkg 14) | Includes elevated road in Jodhpur and state highway in Baran |
| Drinking water | Nonera Major DWP (4 packages); Parwan Akawad Major DWP (5 packages) | Aimed at improving safe drinking-water supply |
| Energy | REZ transmission systems; 5×220 kV and 2×400 kV substations | To strengthen evacuation of renewable power from Rajasthan |
| Health | National HPV vaccination campaign | Target: girls aged 14 years, preventive against cervical cancer |
"The Prime Minister will launch, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹16,680 crore and will also launch a nationwide campaign for HPV vaccination for girls aged 14 years," the statement reported.
Local consequences: Projects of this scale aim to improve long-distance connectivity, strengthen renewable-energy evacuation and augment drinking-water infrastructure — developments that could have downstream effects on trade, industrial activity and public health in Ajmer and neighbouring districts. Road upgrades such as the Bandikui–Jaipur expressway and sections of national corridors are likely to reduce travel times and improve freight movement, while the drinking-water packages are expected to address long-standing supply shortages in parts of the region.
Health officials will be closely watching the rollout of the HPV campaign, given the logistical challenge of vaccinating adolescent girls across the country. The vaccination initiative, if widely implemented, has potential long-term benefits for women's health by lowering the risk of cervical cancer.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public gathering during the visit. Further operational details, timelines for individual packages and implementation plans were not provided in the statement.
