Large-scale RPS transfers affect Jaipur policing ahead of local elections

Jaipur witnessed a notable administrative overhaul on Wednesday after the state government issued transfer orders for 123 officers of the Rajasthan Police Service (RPS). The reshuffle, announced late on Tuesday and reported by Bhaskar English, includes 12 postings within the Jaipur Police Commissionerate and assignments for 48 trainee RPS officers. Orders were directed to take immediate effect and officers were instructed to join at once.

The move comes as the state prepares for upcoming urban local body and panchayat elections; the State Election Commission had earlier directed transfers for officers who had been posted at the same place for three years or were serving in their home districts. The transfer orders were issued by Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Biju George Joseph, according to the report.

Key postings in Jaipur Commissionerate

Among the new appointments within the Jaipur Commissionerate, the following changes were listed:

  • Narendra Kumar — appointed ACP Police Control Room
  • Hemraj — appointed ACP Cyber Crime
  • Jethu Singh — appointed ACP Sodala
  • Dilip Kumar Meena — appointed ACP Shastri Nagar
  • Sangram Singh — sent as ACP Cyber Crime

Transfers cancelled; trainees posted

The transfer list also recorded the cancellation of ten previously ordered moves. Those whose transfers were cancelled include Anil Jasoria, Abdul Rahman, Hazari Lal Khatana, Vijay Kumar Arya, Surendra Kumar, Manish Kumar Sharma, Narendra Kumar Dayma, Brijesh Kumar Jatav and Ramesh Kumar Pareek, as per the Bhaskar English summary.

In addition to confirmed postings for regular RPS officers, 48 trainee RPS officers have been assigned to various districts and units across the state. The trainees’ postings are part of efforts to reinforce district-level policing and ensure adequate manpower during the election period.

"A major administrative overhaul took place after several senior police officials were transferred in Rajasthan ahead of the urban local body and panchayat elections," Bhaskar English reported.

For Jaipur residents, the reshuffle will mean new leadership at several local police units and may lead to changes in focus and priorities at the station and ACP level. The appointment of officers to cyber crime, women’s cell and neighbourhood commissionerate units suggests continued attention to technology-enabled offences and community policing.

Implementation of the orders will require immediate joining by transferred officers. Further details of district-wise placement of the 48 trainees and a full consolidated transfer list were published alongside the state orders, according to the report.

Observers in Jaipur say frequent transfers ahead of elections are generally intended to ensure neutrality and administrative preparedness; however, the immediate operational impact will depend on how quickly newly posted officers familiarise themselves with local issues such as traffic management, crime hotspots and community outreach in the Pink City’s diverse urban wards.
