Violent death at University Road shelter raises questions about security and care
AJMER: A 40-year-old man who was deaf and mute was allegedly beaten to death inside a government-run shelter on University Road in Ajmer between 1 and 2 am on Tuesday, police said. The victim, identified as Mukhar, had been living at the centre under the care of the state Social Justice and Empowerment Department owing to mental illness.
According to police, another resident of the shelter, named Aamid, attacked Mukhar with an iron rod, striking him repeatedly on the head and body. The injuries were fatal and Mukhar was pronounced dead at the scene, the Civil Lines police said.
