Guntur municipal body launches ₹53.76 crore 'Nava Guntur' development package
The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has rolled out a comprehensive ₹53.76 crore development and beautification programme aimed at reorganising major junctions, creating themed recreational spaces, upgrading neighbourhood parks and improving public amenities across the city as part of the "Nava Guntur" initiative. GMC commissioner K Mayur Ashok said the plan focuses on integrated interventions to enhance citizen quality of life while creating a cleaner and greener urban landscape.
The package covers six components combining traffic management, sanitation, public amenities and urban landscaping. The civic body framed the proposals to deliver coordinated improvements rather than standalone beautification works, the GMC said.
"The focus is on improving the quality of life of citizens while creating a cleaner, greener and more vibrant Guntur. These projects are being planned as integrated interventions rather than isolated beautification works," said K Mayur Ashok.
Major junctions, parks and public facilities: how the money is apportioned
The single largest allocation — ₹17.93 crore — has been earmarked for development and beautification at seven major junctions: B R Stadium, P V K Naidu Market, Hindu College, Collectorate Junction, Medical Club, Chuttugunta and Nazz Centre. Works planned at these junctions include cobble-stone paving, landscaping, improved lighting, better signboards and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure intended to improve road safety and traffic movement.
Six theme parks will be developed at a combined cost of ₹7.30 crore, each given a distinct identity to serve different community needs and interests. The civic plan lists the parks and their designated themes as follows:
- Lal Jan Basha Park — women-centric theme
- Sitaram Nagar Park — superhero theme
- Housing Board Colony Park — science park
- Udyog Nagar Park — cartoon park
- Alapati Venkataramaiah Park, Koritepadu — glow park
- Shanti Nagar Park — Mediterranean theme
Another ₹7.01 crore will finance the development of neighbourhood parks at 21 locations, to provide greenery, walking tracks, seating and children’s play areas and make accessible open spaces available to residents in multiple localities.
