Chennai: Flipkart on Tuesday announced plans to intensify its engagement with the Tamil Nadu government as the e‑commerce group scales up digital commerce, technology infrastructure and logistics capacity in the state to better connect manufacturers and small businesses with customers across India.
Seller network and jobs
The company said nearly 70,000 sellers from Tamil Nadu now use its platform to reach customers nationwide. These sellers span established manufacturing clusters — such as Tiruppur's knitwear belt and textile hubs in Erode and Salem — as well as traditional craftspeople, including silk weavers in Kancheepuram and artisan groups in Thanjavur.
Flipkart also stated its combined seller, supply‑chain, technology and services ecosystem supports more than 1.3 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the state.
Supply‑chain and technology expansion
The company's logistics footprint in Tamil Nadu has grown to exceed 25 lakh square feet, a move it said will accelerate delivery timelines and strengthen the physical infrastructure underpinning digital commerce for state businesses.
Flipkart has established dedicated seller growth teams in Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and Chennai to assist businesses with onboarding, product cataloguing, logistics integration and skill development.
"Tamil Nadu is an important part of Flipkart's long‑term growth story. The state brings together a strong manufacturing ecosystem, deep technology talent and a growing digital economy," said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart Group.
Chennai as a technology hub
The group highlighted Tamil Nadu's role as a technology centre, noting its Chennai data centre is among Flipkart's largest technology investments in India. The data centre hosts critical group‑level operations, and the company said a significant share of its power requirement is met from renewable energy sources.
Flipkart described the state's technology talent pool and renewable energy ecosystem as foundational to its continued investment plans.
Local impact and government partnership
Flipkart said it looks forward to deepening collaboration with the Government of Tamil Nadu to contribute to the state's next phase of digital, manufacturing and economic expansion. The announcement frames the company's growth in Tamil Nadu as both market‑driven and complementary to the state's industrial and employment objectives.

What this means for Tamil Nadu businesses
For manufacturers and artisans, expanded logistics space and local seller teams may reduce lead times to customers outside the state and simplify integration with digital platforms. The presence of a large data centre and a technology workforce in Chennai could attract further tech investment and encourage upskilling among local employees engaged in e‑commerce operations.
State officials have not yet released detailed terms of the proposed partnership. Flipkart's statement, however, sets expectations of closer public‑private engagement aimed at scaling digital commerce and supporting MSME market access.
Economic analysts and industry participants will watch for implementation details, especially on how the expanded supply‑chain capacity and local onboarding programmes translate into measurable gains for smaller sellers and traditional artisan groups in Tamil Nadu.
