The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested four persons — identified as Kunal (21), Sumit (19) and two women, Radha (23) and Babita (23) — in connection with the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff's car in Mumbai, an official account reported by PTI said on Tuesday.
Alleged link to US-based gangster
According to the sequence of events provided by the Special Cell, the four suspects are alleged to have carried out operations on the directions of Anil Pandit, a 32-year-old gangster from Panipat who is reportedly operating from the United States and is said to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal network.
The police account states that Kunal, who had recently been released on bail, was introduced to Pandit by a friend from Harsana village. Kunal is said to have communicated with Pandit through an encrypted messaging application and, following instructions, collected a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition from Amritsar along with Sumit.
Role attributed to the four accused
The Special Cell's narrative outlines the alleged movements and roles:
- Kunal and Sumit allegedly procured the weaponry from Amritsar on Pandit's instructions.
- Kunal reportedly developed a relationship with Radha and persuaded her to travel to Mumbai with the concealed weapon.
- On October 15, Kunal allegedly dropped Radha and Babita at New Delhi Railway Station; the pistol was allegedly hidden in Radha's bag.
- Radha and Babita are said to have travelled to Mumbai, checked into a hotel at Dadar and proceeded to the city where the firing incident occurred.
Court proceedings and remand
The four were initially produced before a court under Section 35(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The Maharashtra Police's Crime Investigation Department (CID) later moved an application seeking permission for custodial interrogation and formal arrest. The court allowed the application and granted a three-day transit remand to the Mumbai Police team for further interrogation, an official told PTI.
| Accused | Age | Place | Alleged role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kunal | 21 | Sonipat (Haryana) | Introduced to Pandit; allegedly procured weapon; facilitated travel |
| Sumit | 19 | Sonipat (Haryana) | Allegedly procured weapon |
| Radha | 23 | Uttar Pradesh | Allegedly transported weapon to Mumbai |
| Babita | 23 | Uttar Pradesh | Traveled to Mumbai with Radha |
Investigation angle and inter-state coordination
The Special Cell’s account emphasises the use of encrypted communications and interstate movement, including pickup of a weapon in Amritsar and travel by rail from New Delhi to Mumbai. The involvement of Maharashtra Police CID in seeking custodial interrogation indicates coordination between Delhi and Maharashtra law enforcement agencies in the probe.
Authorities have linked the suspected handlers to criminal elements operating outside India, underscoring the transnational dimension that investigators say complicates such cases and typically requires cooperation among multiple enforcement agencies.
Public safety and legal provisions
The case was processed under the BNSS provisions that allow for temporary production of persons for interrogation. The court's grant of transit remand will enable Mumbai's investigators to question the suspects further and, if required, effect formal arrest under Maharashtra jurisdiction.
As the probe proceeds, officials are expected to examine the digital trail on encrypted apps, travel histories and financial links to establish the chain of command and identify any wider conspiracy.
No formal charge sheet has been reported yet. The police have not provided additional details about the nature of evidence recovered during the arrests or whether firearms or ammunition were seized at the time of detention.
"The court allowed the plea and granted the Mumbai Police team three days’ transit remand," an official told PTI.
Investigations in high-profile attacks on public figures often prompt agencies to scrutinise broader criminal networks. The coming days are likely to see custody interrogations and legal processes as Mumbai Police pursue leads gathered during initial questioning in Delhi.
