Rapid response after coordinated threat emails

Several schools across Delhi and the Dr S.P.M. Civic Centre were subjected to search operations on Monday after receiving anonymous bomb-threat emails, officials said. Bomb Detection Team (BDT) units of the Delhi Police, aided by the Delhi Fire Services and trained dog squads, conducted anti-sabotage checks at the named premises through the morning and early afternoon.

The Delhi Fire Services logged five separate calls about bomb threats between 9:41 a.m. and 11:11 a.m., the agency reported. The first call originated from Mother International School, Hauz Khas, and was later declared a hoax following searches, authorities said.

  • Navy Children’s School, Chanakyapuri — call received at 10:34 a.m.
  • Bal Bharati School, Sector 14 Rohini — call received at 10:50 a.m.
  • Springdales School — call logged in the same time window
  • Salwan Public School and Bal Bharati Public School — reported under Rajender Nagar police station
  • St. Thomas’ School and Juniors’ School — reported under Karol Bagh police station

A similar threat email was received by the offices at the Dr S.P.M. Civic Centre, the municipal headquarters that falls under Kamla Market police station, a senior Central district police official said. The official added that several other establishments across the city also reported receipt of related messages.

“As of 1:28 p.m. no bomb or suspicious object resembling an explosive device was found at any of the locations,” police said.

Search procedures and ongoing inquiry

Police and emergency teams carried out anti-sabotage checks, a process that involved securing the premises, restricting movement and conducting systematic sweeps with specialised equipment and sniffer dogs, officials said. Bomb disposal squads and BDT units visually and physically examined areas indicated in the threat messages.

Investigations are underway to establish the origin of the threat emails and to analyse their content, the Central district police official said. Digital forensics teams have been tasked to trace the source of the messages and to determine whether the emails are linked to earlier similar incidents in the city.

Context: recurrence of threat emails

Monday’s threats follow a string of similar anonymous emails that targeted schools and public institutions across the national capital in recent weeks, officials noted. The recurrence has prompted heightened vigilance among district police, school administrations and municipal authorities.

School authorities and local police advised that standard safety protocols were enacted, including early evacuation where appropriate, communication with parents and ensuring students remained under supervision until areas were cleared. Some schools temporarily restricted movement within their compounds while searches were underway, the senior police official said.

Police emphasised that while no device was recovered during the inspections, the incidents will be treated seriously until forensic work establishes the sender and motive. Digital tracing and coordination with email service providers are part of the ongoing inquiry, officials added.

Further updates are expected as investigations progress and as police release additional findings about the provenance of the threatening communications.
