Three Paarl venues to host day-long celebration of a regional delicacy

The Boland’s annual Waterblommetjie Festival will return for its 16th edition on Saturday 5 September, spread across three Paarl venues that lie within a few kilometres of one another. Windmeul Kelder, Rhebokskloof Estate and Domaine Brahms will each run distinct programmes from 08:00, allowing visitors to move between sites during the day and sample food, wine and family entertainment inspired by the indigenous waterblommetjie.

  • Windmeul Kelder — the festival’s original home — will host a farmer’s market and a farmer’s breakfast, plus the Run the Vine trail run with 5km, 10km and 17km routes through vineyards.
  • Rhebokskloof Estate — focused on curated food-and-wine pairings, including a tapas experience of five tasting portions paired with five wines (pre-booking required).
  • Domaine Brahms — positioned as the family hub, offering a buffet brunch, themed high tea, garden picnics and access to its vintage car museum.

There will be live music, children’s activities such as a jumping castle, face painting and balloon-twisting, and a potjiekos competition at Windmeul Kelder. A free waterblommetjiebredie and wine pairing will be served at Windmeul from 10:00 to 12:00.

“Visitors can move between the three venues during the day,” the festival announcement said, enabling guests to experience different menus and activities.

Several festival activities require pre-booking or entry by specified dates. Those who wish to enter the potjiekos competition must email wines@windmeul.com by Friday 21 August. The Domaine Brahms themed high tea is priced at R215 per person and must be booked by Friday 28 August via brahms@iafrica.com. Local context and what to expect

The Waterblommetjie Festival has become a fixture of Paarl’s calendar, drawing both locals and visitors to celebrate a Cape seasonal ingredient while supporting small producers and estate restaurants. Windmeul’s market and the trail run provide options for residents who prefer outdoor or family-friendly activities, while Rhebokskloof and Domaine Brahms cater to diners seeking structured tastings and sit-down experiences.

For Paarl businesses and producers, the festival presents an opportunity to reach a concentrated audience over a single weekend. The announcement highlights Windmeul’s award-winning Chenin Blanc among wines on offer and indicates family-oriented programming at Domaine Brahms, including space for vintage-car displays — a draw for enthusiasts and families alike.

Visitors planning to attend should note the separate booking requirements for specific events and the set cut-off dates. With activities starting at 08:00 and a number of simultaneous offerings across three venues, organisers are encouraging guests to plan movements between sites if they wish to experience more than one programme.

Full details, times and booking arrangements were published by the festival organisers in the event release.
