A study of 2,266 working‑age adults in Finland published in the journal Sleep Health reports that people who identify as evening types — often called “night owls” — experience more problems recovering from work, are more likely to have symptoms or diagnoses of anxiety and depression, and find it harder to balance work and personal life than morning types.

Researchers separated participants into morning, intermediate and evening circadian types and assessed several domains: anxiety and depression symptoms, the extent to which work interferes with leisure time, and how well individuals recover from work.
