Man savagely attacked on service road, shifted to ICU; two accused arrested
New Delhi: Two persons have been arrested after a man was grievously injured with a surgical blade and robbed of his gold chain and mobile phone in northeast Delhi’s Sonia Vihar, police said on Monday. The injured, identified as Pramod Yadav (32), who works at a jewellery shop in Chandni Chowk, was taken to hospital and later shifted to a private facility in Shalimar Bagh for surgery.
"Police received information regarding the incident from a hospital at 12.18 am last Wednesday."
According to the police account, Yadav was returning home after parking his car when two men approached him on the service road. The assailants allegedly inflicted injuries with a surgical blade, assaulted him and fled after snatching his gold chain and mobile phone. Yadav was initially admitted following emergency treatment and was subsequently shifted by his family to a private hospital in Shalimar Bagh, where he underwent surgery and was kept in the intensive care unit.
Police registered a case and carried out an investigation that led to the arrest of two suspects, named as Mubbashir (21) and Salman (21), near Chauhan Patti. The stolen mobile phone was recovered from the accused, the police said. Salman, the police added, had been earlier involved in a separate case of attempted murder.
Recovery of pawned jewellery and cash
The suspects told investigators they had pawned the stolen gold chain at a non-banking financial company (NBFC). Police recovered the chain — reported to weigh around 24 grams — and loan documents from the NBFC. Investigators also recovered ₹1 lakh that the accused had received against the pawned chain.

The arrest near Chauhan Patti and the recovery of the pawn documentation have provided police with evidence linking the suspects to the robbery. A case of robbery and causing grievous injury has been registered; investigators are pursuing further enquiries into the earlier criminal record of one of the accused and any accomplices or repeat offenders operating in the area.

Local residents and shopkeepers in neighbouring areas, including Chandni Chowk and Sonia Vihar, have been on alert after the incident, given that the victim works in a busy commercial district and was attacked while returning to his vehicle. The police presence in the area was stepped up following the complaint and arrests, officers said, as part of efforts to reassure the public and curb similar street robberies.
Investigating officers have said they will question the suspects further to establish whether the pair acted alone or as part of a wider network involved in targeted robberies and pawn frauds. The recovery of loan documents from the NBFC is expected to assist in tracing the flow of pawn transactions and any intermediaries involved.
The case file remains open as investigators complete forensic examination, witness statements and medical reports related to the grievous injuries inflicted with the surgical blade. The police have not released further details about the current medical condition of Yadav beyond confirmation that he underwent surgery and was in the ICU after being shifted to the private hospital in Shalimar Bagh.
