Dehradun: Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) on Friday inaugurated a new incubation facility at the IT Park in Dehradun to support technology companies and startups in Uttarakhand, officials said.
Purpose and facilities
The facility, opened by Jitin Prasada, Union minister of state for electronics and information technology and commerce & industry, is intended to provide modern infrastructure for emerging IT/ITeS enterprises and startups seeking to establish or expand operations in the state. STPI director general Arvind Kumar said the centre would back product development, entrepreneurship and employment generation through infrastructure, mentorship and industry connections.
- Infrastructure: Co-working and office space for technology firms and startups.
- Support: Mentorship and industry linkages aimed at business development and collaboration.
- Objective: Encourage product development, innovation and job creation within Uttarakhand's IT ecosystem.
Uttarakhand cabinet minister for IT and good governance Pradeep Batra said the state was witnessing growing interest from tourists and businesses, making stronger infrastructure and access to modern facilities essential. Officials noted ongoing efforts to advance digital governance, including the availability of around 1,000 services online.
"Technology and trade were key drivers of India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation," Jitin Prasada said, stressing the need for technological self-reliance and greater focus on semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
Local impact and context
The new STPI incubation centre at Dehradun IT Park is positioned to act as a local hub for startups that currently lack formal infrastructure in the hill state. By offering a conducive working environment, the centre aims to enable collaboration among small technology firms and provide pathways for business development.
Arvind Kumar said the facility would support startups through mentorship and connections with industry, though specific programme details, seat capacity, incubation cohorts and timelines for service rollout were not disclosed in the inauguration statements.

The inauguration aligns with central government priorities on building technological capacity and promoting semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, themes emphasised by the Union minister during the opening. Prasada highlighted that strengthening these sectors would assist India in adopting global best practices and securing technological self-reliance.
What residents and local startups should expect
For Dehradun-based entrepreneurs and tech professionals, the STPI incubation facility may bring several practical benefits if implementation follows the stated goals:
- Access to office infrastructure without the initial capital outlay required to lease independent space.
- Opportunity to tap into mentoring networks and industry linkages that can aid product development and market access.
- Potential for increased local hiring as startups scale using the centre’s resources.
Officials said the facility is part of broader efforts to strengthen Uttarakhand’s IT ecosystem and to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. Further operational details, including application procedures for incubation, membership costs and partnership arrangements, will determine the facility’s day-to-day impact on Dehradun’s startup community.
No timelines were provided at the event for follow-up programmes or the opening of specific Centres of Excellence referenced by STPI representatives.
