Fatal domestic violence near Jetalsar leaves family searching for answers
Rajkot — A young woman was discovered dead on railway tracks near Jetalsar in Rajkot district after what police say was an alleged murder by her husband in an apparent attempt to stage the death as a train accident. Virpur police have registered an FIR against the accused, identified as Dipak Shingar (22), on a charge of murder, officials said.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Samir Bhuriya (40), his daughter Daxa (20) had married Dipak about six months earlier. The couple worked as sharecroppers at a farm in Kagvad village of Jetpur taluka.
Bhuriya told police that during a visit around Raksha Bandhan his daughter had confided in the family that her husband regularly consumed alcohol, assaulted her and suspected her character. Relatives had intervened previously and brokered a settlement, but tensions reportedly persisted.
Investigating officer Shailesh Rathod said the alleged killing occurred in the early hours between Sunday night and Monday. Police allege the accused strangled Daxa after accusing her of talking to another man on the phone. After believing she was dead, he is said to have carried her body across agricultural fields and placed it on nearby railway tracks. When the woman was observed to be still breathing, the accused allegedly struck her head several times with a large stone before leaving the scene.
A train driver spotted the body on the tracks, halted the train and alerted the police. The deceased was taken to Rajkot for a postmortem. Rathod said the forensic postmortem confirmed death due to strangulation and head injuries. During questioning, the accused purportedly admitted to strangling his wife and inflicting the head injuries; police also said he had confessed to his father, named in the complaint as Pratap, before fleeing.
"The forensic postmortem confirmed that she died due to strangulation and head injuries," said the investigation officer.
Police circulated photographs of the deceased across neighbouring villages and farms to establish identity. The farm owner where the couple worked approached authorities after realising a woman from the household was missing and assisted in identification, the officer added. The Virpur police have formally recorded the FIR and continue to probe the case.
