Reservation draw assigns 10 SC seats in Jodhpur division; three reserved for SC women
Jaipur — A lottery conducted in the state capital has reserved 10 seats in the Jodhpur division for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, of which three seats have been earmarked exclusively for SC women, officials said.
The seats notified in the draw are located in Sayla, Marwar Junction, Mandar, Dhorimanna, Mathania, Tinwari, Sindhari, Samdari, Sojat Road and Baap. Among these, Mathania, Dhorimanna and Baap have been designated as SC women-reserved wards.
"10 seats have been reserved for the SC category in Jodhpur division."
The lottery comes as part of preparations for the forthcoming local body elections across Rajasthan. In Jodhpur district, local body polls will be held for the first time in four municipalities that were earlier without elections at the municipal level: Bhopalgarh, Mathania, Tinwari and Balesar, the administration said.
Delimitation and merger: Jodhpur now has 100 wards
Following a recent delimitation exercise and merger of the two earlier municipal corporations, Jodhpur now comprises 100 wards, a substantial reduction from the previous combined total of 160 wards. Previously, the city was administered through two corporations — Municipal Corporation North and Municipal Corporation South — each with 80 wards.
The merger and subsequent delimitation have also altered ward boundaries, bringing parts of the Luni Assembly constituency and sections of the revenue village Pal (East) into the municipal limits. Under the new layout, Ward 87 has the highest electorate with more than 13,000 voters, while Ward 10 has the smallest voter base at around 4,000 voters, including a portion of Pal (East).
Authorities have released a detailed map and list setting out the boundaries of all 100 wards and the voter figures for each. The reorganisation also clarifies the status of older municipalities in the district: Bilara and Pipar City remain the two earlier municipalities outside the main corporation.
- Seats reserved for SC (10): Sayla, Marwar Junction, Mandar, Dhorimanna, Mathania, Tinwari, Sindhari, Samdari, Sojat Road, Baap.
- SC women-reserved seats (3): Mathania, Dhorimanna, Baap.
- New municipalities holding polls for the first time: Bhopalgarh, Mathania, Tinwari, Balesar.
Implications for local politics and administration
The delimitation and seat reservation are set to reshape local political contests in Jodhpur, concentrating representation into fewer wards and changing electoral calculations for parties and aspirants. The merger of the two corporations into a single civic body reduces fragmentation but increases the size and diversity of individual wards, officials noted in documents released alongside the lottery.
The reduction from 160 to 100 wards will also affect resource allocation, ward-level administration and service delivery. Voter concentration in larger wards such as Ward 87 may prompt candidates to recalibrate campaign strategies and outreach, particularly in peri-urban and recently incorporated areas drawn from the Luni Assembly segment and Pal (East).
| Item | Detail |

Officials have published the full ward-by-ward voter numbers and boundary descriptions to assist political parties, candidates and citizens ahead of the polls. The new reservations for SC categories, including the three seats for SC women, follow statutory norms and the lottery process administered by the state election machinery.
As Jodhpur prepares for the election season under the reorganised civic structure, the reservation list and delimitation outcomes will be closely watched for their impact on representation, local governance and delivery of civic services across the city and district.
