Major MSME infrastructure for southern Bihar planned at Gaya
Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary are scheduled to lay the foundation stone of a new Technology Centre at Khizarsarai in Gaya on 15 June 2026. The Ministry of MSME has sanctioned an investment of ₹170 crore for the project, which aims to strengthen the MSME ecosystem across southern Bihar and the wider Magadh region.
The Ministry said the Centre will be developed on a 20‑acre plot provided by the Bihar government and will serve as a hub for advanced manufacturing support, technical assistance and industry‑oriented training. According to the announcement, the facility will cater to sectors including general engineering, heavy engineering and textile testing.
"The Technology Centre will be developed on a 20‑acre plot provided by the Bihar Government," the Ministry of MSME said.
What the centre will provide
Officials in the MSME ministry outlined a package of services and targets for the new Centre that are designed to plug gaps in local industrial capability:
- Provision of advanced manufacturing facilities and testing infrastructure for industry use.
- Technical support and industry‑oriented training programmes aimed at building practical skills.
- Tooling and job‑work services to directly support the operations of local MSMEs.
The Centre is expected to benefit MSMEs not only in Gaya but also in neighbouring districts — Aurangabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Jehanabad and Munger — creating a wider catchment for skills and services. The Ministry has set annual targets to ensure measurable outcomes.
| Parameter | Target / Value |
|---|---|
| Investment | ₹170 crore |
| Land area | 20 acres |
| Youths to be trained annually | Around 7,000 |
| MSMEs to be supported annually | Over 1,000 |
Local impact and context
Gaya is a commercial and educational centre for southern Bihar, but industrial infrastructure has lagged behind in comparison with north Bihar and the state capital region. The new Technology Centre aims to narrow that gap by offering both testing and production‑related services that small enterprises typically cannot afford to create in house.
Training capacity targeted at about 7,000 youths annually could help improve employability in manufacturing and allied trades, while the stated aim to support more than 1,000 MSMEs each year through tooling and job‑work services could reduce unit costs and increase competitiveness for small firms in the Magadh belt.
Local industry groups and training institutes have long asked for an institutional facility that combines testing, certification and hands‑on training. If delivered on schedule, the Centre could also serve as a focal point for public‑private collaboration in skill development and technology adoption.
Implementation and next steps
The Ministry of MSME statement did not provide a detailed timeline for construction or operationalisation beyond the foundation stone event. Key next steps will include finalising the design, tendering for construction, and staffing the training and laboratory units.
Provision of the site by the state government removes one common bottleneck; however, detailed plans, budgets and timeframes for rolling out programmes and equipment procurement will determine how quickly the Centre begins delivering benefits on the ground.
With the foundation stone laying scheduled for this week, local traders, vocational trainers and district officials will be watching the project's follow‑through closely to see whether the promised training slots and MSME support materialise as planned.
