Police arrest four in connection with cash snatching at NIT-2

Faridabad police on Friday arrested four men suspected of robbing Rs 1.53 lakh from a liquor contractor in the Kotwali police station area. The accused were taken into custody following an investigation by the Crime Branch, Sector-48, the police said.

The complainant, identified as Charan Singh Kanhaiya of NIT-2, who runs a liquor shop at Dabua Chowk, was returning home on his motorcycle on the night of July 15 after collecting the day's takings when he was intercepted at E-Block, NIT-2, officials said. Three youths allegedly brandished a country-made pistol, snatched the bag containing the cash and fled the scene.

Arrests and alleged roles

The four arrested were identified as Prince (alias Raja), Ravi (alias Mota), Amit Pal and Ankit (alias Lappa). All are residents of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the police said. According to investigators, one of the accused, Prince, had earlier been employed at the liquor shop and received a monthly salary of Rs 8,000.

Police said Prince allegedly hatched the robbery after quitting his job, claiming he had not received part of his wages. Being familiar with the contractor’s routine — in particular that the owner usually carried the day's sales home —Prince is said to have planned the attack with his brother-in-law, Ankit, and later recruited Ravi and Amit.
