Child killed after collision with heavy e-rickshaw at Sector 31 T-junction
A seven-year-old boy died after being crushed beneath an e-rickshaw in Faridabad’s Sector 31 on Saturday evening, police said. The vehicle, carrying large water bottles, overturned as the driver attempted to negotiate a ramp and trapped the child, according to CCTV footage and investigators.
The deceased was identified as Saksham, a resident of Sector 31. His father, Ajay Rawat, originally hails from Fatehabad in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh and works as a software engineer in Noida, police said.
Sequence of events captured on camera
Police said the incident occurred at around 5:30 pm when Saksham was riding a bicycle in the street outside his home with a friend. After completing a round, he was returning towards his house and reached the T-junction in front of his home, where his bicycle collided with an e-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators shows the e-rickshaw driver attempting to climb a ramp protruding onto the road to avoid a direct collision. The vehicle, heavily laden with large water bottles, lost balance while negotiating the ramp and overturned, trapping the child underneath, the police said.
“Based on the complaint of the child’s father, an FIR was registered, and the driver of the e-rickshaw was apprehended. We handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem examination,”
said ASI Nizamuddin, the investigating officer.

Local context and safety implications
The incident has drawn attention to road safety in residential areas where children play and cycle. Police said the ramp protruding onto the road and the heavy load in the e-rickshaw were contributing factors in the vehicle losing balance. The case will be investigated further under the FIR filed on the basis of the father’s complaint, the investigating officer said.
No further details on the driver’s identity, the exact charges or whether any mechanical faults were suspected in the e-rickshaw were released by police at the time of reporting. The post-mortem was completed before the body was handed over to the family.
The incident has raised concerns among residents in Sector 31 about vehicular movement in narrow residential streets and the practice of carrying heavy commercial loads on small passenger vehicles. Local police have not announced any immediate changes to traffic enforcement in the area but said the investigation will determine the next steps.
Authorities asked anyone with additional footage or eyewitness details to approach the Sector 31 police station as the probe continues.
