American Airlines has introduced a new seasonal route linking New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Quebec City, offering daily flights from Aug. 5 to Oct. 31. The carrier said the service will be operated with Embraer 175 regional jets that seat 76 customers.
More options for travellers, seasonally
The new daily link to JFK complements American’s existing network into the region, which already includes service between Quebec City and several of the airline’s U.S. hubs. The company framed the move as a way to broaden connections for both residents and visitors, enabling one-stop access to destinations across the United States and onward to American’s international routes.
Paola Torri, American Airlines’ director of operations for Canada and Mexico, highlighted that the service gives travellers in Quebec City “convenient access to New York and beyond through our JFK hub, including connections across the United States and to key European destinations.” She also noted the route will make it easier for visitors to experience Quebec City’s history and culture.
Aircraft, capacity and timing
The carrier said the Quebec City flights will be flown on Embraer 175 aircraft with a capacity of 76 customers. The service runs through the fall, terminating Oct. 31, and is explicitly seasonal.
- Frequency: Daily (Aug. 5–Oct. 31)
- Aircraft: Embraer 175
- Seating capacity: 76 customers
“We are proud to continue growing our presence in Canada during a milestone year for American and American’s Canadian service,” Paola Torri said.
How the route fits into American’s network
American framed the new Quebec City service as complementary to its existing links from the city to several U.S. hubs, naming Philadelphia, Chicago, Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth. By routing passengers through JFK, the airline said it will offer additional single-connection options to destinations across its global network.
For Quebec City, the new JFK frequency may be especially relevant for travellers seeking onward connections that are more numerous from New York, including transatlantic services. For inbound visitors, the route provides another direct gateway from a major U.S. market during the late summer and fall season.
Seasonal routing beyond Quebec City
American also announced seasonal service from JFK to Calgary, highlighting a broader short-term expansion into Canada. That Calgary route will operate three times weekly using Boeing 737 aircraft with 172 seats, running on a different seasonal schedule.
| Route | Dates | Frequency | Aircraft | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JFK — Quebec City | Aug. 5 – Oct. 31 | Daily | Embraer 175 | 76 |
| JFK — Calgary | Aug. 6 – Oct. 4 | Tues/Thurs/Sun | Boeing 737 | 172 |
Local implications
Seasonal air service can affect local tourism and business travel patterns, particularly in a city whose visitor economy is tied to cultural events and autumn festivals. More direct options to a major U.S. gateway like JFK may encourage short-break leisure travel as well as offer additional routing choices for Quebec residents travelling to the broader American network.
Ultimately, the new daily frequency will be available for roughly three months. Whether American Airlines extends the service beyond the announced season will depend on passenger demand and broader network decisions made by the carrier.
For travellers interested in the new service, itineraries and seat availability are already being marketed by the airline for the specified seasonal period.
