Young woman fatally injured in domestic quarrel over food in Katedan
Hyderabad: A 19-year-old woman died on Sunday after being pushed by her husband during a fight over food at their home in Sri Ram Nagar Colony, Katedan, the Mailardevpally police said on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Shikshanjali Kumari, who married Chandan Kumar in April 2026. The couple, both described by police as daily wagers, lived in the colony and reportedly argued frequently about financial matters.
According to the Mailardevpally police and reporting in Siasat.com, the incident took place on Sunday afternoon. Shikshanjali is said to have served food to her husband that evening; he was allegedly dissatisfied with the taste of the curry and pushed her during the ensuing quarrel. She fell, struck her head against a wall and sustained a grievous injury.
Chandan Kumar reportedly rushed her to Osmania General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the Mailardevpally police on Monday, following which the husband was taken into custody.
“The incident occurred on Sunday, at 2 pm. Chandan was taken into custody and would be taken to court today,” the Mailardevpally police said, according to Siasat.com.
Police have registered a case under section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The arrested person is expected to be produced before the court in connection with the charge.

Broader civic concerns
Hyderabad’s police and civic agencies have in recent years recorded efforts to sensitise communities and improve support for victims of domestic violence, including helplines and shelter services. However, cases that end in fatal outcomes underline gaps in early intervention, economic insecurity and access to counselling or mediation for couples under stress.
Residents in Katedan and nearby localities said community dynamics and crowded living conditions can intensify small disputes. Police action will determine whether the case is prosecuted as culpable homicide or whether further charges will be added based on medical and forensic findings.
The Mailardevpally police provided the details to Siasat.com. No additional official statements or post-mortem results were available at the time of reporting.
