72.44-km Ghaziabad–Jewar corridor proposed to connect city with Noida International Airport
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has proposed a 72.44-km Ghaziabad–Jewar corridor that would link Ghaziabad station on the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat line with the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar, the corporation said in station details shared with stakeholders. The plan envisages services for both Namo Bharat regional rapid rail and local metro systems to provide an integrated public transport option across the eastern National Capital Region (NCR).
An NCRTC official said the scheme is currently at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage and will require further clearances and funding decisions before construction can begin. According to the information provided, the corridor is designed to be largely elevated, with a small underground section, and is intended to cut travel times between Ghaziabad, Noida and the new airport to roughly 40–50 minutes once operational.
"The project is still at the Detailed Project Report stage," the official said.
- Length: 72.44 km (around 71.5 km elevated, 1.29 km underground)
- Service mix: Namo Bharat regional services plus metro services on the same corridor
- Target operational speed: Maximum planned speed of 180 kmph
The proposal includes separate station sets for the two service types. NCRTC listed 11 stations to be served by Namo Bharat trains and 18 stations to be served by metro services along the alignment, allowing passengers to access both regional rapid rail and local metro within the corridor's catchment.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Total length | 72.44 km |
| Elevated / Underground | ~71.5 km elevated, 1.29 km underground |
| Stations (Namo Bharat / Metro) | 11 / 18 |
| Planned maximum speed | 180 kmph |
Listed Namo Bharat stops include Ghaziabad South, several Greater Noida sectors and nodes such as Greater Noida Sector 2, Sector 3, Sector 12, Surajpur, Alpha-I, EcoTech-VI, Dankaur, YEIDA North (Sector 18), YEIDA Central (Sector 21) and Noida International Airport at Jewar. The metro station list names local access points including Siddharth Vihar, Greater Noida Sector 16C, EcoTech 12, Greater Noida West (Sector 4), Knowledge Park V and others across the alignment.
For Ghaziabad residents, the corridor would create a direct public-transport connection to the Yamuna Expressway area, Greater Noida and the Jewar airport, potentially easing pressure on road links and reducing dependence on private vehicles and taxis. The intended mix of regional and metro services is aimed at serving both longer-distance airport-bound travellers and local commuters using intermediate stations.
Transport planners say integration of systems can be complex: interoperability, station design, rolling stock compatibility and fare integration will need to be defined in the DPR and subsequent project agreements between NCRTC, state agencies and local metro authorities. Funding, land acquisition along the largely elevated alignment and environmental clearances remain key next steps before a contract can be awarded.
If taken forward, the corridor would become one of several major projects reshaping mobility in the eastern NCR as the new airport at Jewar comes online. For Ghaziabad, which already hosts the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, the proposed link would strengthen the city's role as a transport node connecting the northern suburban belt with southern and eastern growth corridors.
The NCRTC official did not provide a timeline for completion or an estimated project cost in the material shared. Further technical and financial details are expected once the DPR is finalised and circulated for statutory clearances.
