Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has announced proposed investments totalling ₹3,191 crore from companies linked to Japan in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area near Greater Noida, and is planning a dedicated 500-acre ‘Japanese City’ to consolidate Japanese manufacturing in the state, government officials said.
Major projects and expected employment
Officials said Escorts Kubota — the joint venture between Escorts Limited and Japan’s Kubota Corporation — will invest about ₹2,025 crore in Sector 10 of YEIDA to manufacture tractors, construction equipment and allied products for domestic and export markets. The project is expected to generate more than 3,800 jobs.
Minda Corporation has proposed two projects in Sectors 10 and 24 of the industrial zone, the state said, involving a combined investment of around ₹1,166 crore and expected to create about 6,440 jobs. Together, the three proposals are projected to provide employment to upwards of 10,000 people.
| Company | Sector (YEIDA) | Investment | Estimated jobs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Escorts Kubota | Sector 10 | ₹2,025 crore | 3,800+ |
| Minda Corporation (two projects) | Sectors 10 & 24 | ₹1,166 crore | 6,440 |
| Total | YEIDA | ₹3,191 crore | ~10,240+ |
‘Japanese City’ to deepen manufacturing ties
State officials said the proposed 500-acre Japanese City inside the YEIDA area would provide a dedicated base for Japanese manufacturers and aim to strengthen a broader Japan–Uttar Pradesh manufacturing ecosystem. Escorts Kubota’s Sector 10 project is expected to be a central anchor for the precinct.
"It’s his vision to bring Japanese investors to Uttar Pradesh. He planned a separate investor meet with them," a senior functionary at the Chief Minister’s Office said.
The announcements come after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Japan earlier this year, during which he met senior executives of multiple Japanese firms and promoted Uttar Pradesh as an investment destination. State officials said the proposals were among the outcomes of a high-level CEO roundtable — the UP–Japan Investment Meet — held recently in New Delhi.
Who participated in the roundtable
Government sources listed the participation of senior representatives from Japanese and Japan-linked firms and agencies, including JETRO, Kubota Corporation, Toshiba India, Motherson Group, Honda Trading Corporation India, Daikin Airconditioning India, Sumitomo Corporation India, Panasonic, and other industry players. The discussions, officials said, focused on expansion plans, technology partnerships and specific investment opportunities within Uttar Pradesh.
- Location advantage: YEIDA along the Yamuna Expressway is being promoted for large-scale manufacturing, logistics and exports.
- Employment focus: State officials highlighted job creation as a primary outcome of the proposed projects.
- Anchor-led development: Escorts Kubota’s large investment is expected to attract ancillary suppliers and component manufacturers.
Local implications and next steps
If realised, the planned investments would increase industrial activity near Greater Noida and could spur supply-chain growth across auto-components, agricultural machinery and construction equipment segments. Officials said further approvals, land allotments and clearances would follow as part of the YEIDA planning process. No timeline for project commencements or commissioning was provided in the information released by the state.
Officials said the state government intends to hold targeted investor engagements to convert initial proposals into binding commitments. They added that the proposed Japanese City would be structured to provide common infrastructure and regulatory facilitation to make it easier for Japanese firms to establish manufacturing units and export-oriented operations.
For Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, attracting higher-value manufacturing and foreign direct investment remains a policy priority. State authorities have been promoting large industrial nodes and special precincts to draw anchor companies that can support wider industrial clusters and employment generation.
