Major RCMP operation in Thompson results in multiple arrests and weapons seizures
Manitoba RCMP say a coordinated law-enforcement operation in Thompson has led to the arrest of three men and the seizure of drugs, firearms and a substantial amount of cash.
Police carried out a series of search warrants at residences on Queens Bay and Juniper Drive, and conducted a targeted traffic stop on Aug. 13, according to an RCMP news release. The searches involved Thompson RCMP’s general investigative section and crime suppression unit, with assistance from Manitoba RCMP’s emergency response team and police dog services.
After the searches and stop, investigators recovered what they described as roughly 100 grams of cocaine, 746 grams of a cutting agent, a large amount of Canadian currency and assorted drug paraphernalia. Officers also seized three firearms: a loaded .357 Magnum revolver that had been reported stolen in Winnipeg, a 12‑gauge pump-action shotgun and accompanying ammunition.
| Item | Quantity / Description |
|---|---|
| Cocaine | Approximately 100 g |
| Cutting agent | Approximately 746 g |
| Firearms | Loaded .357 Magnum (reported stolen), 12‑gauge pump-action shotgun, ammunition |
| Cash | Large amount (not specified) |
Three men remain in custody. Two, aged 49 and 41 and both from Thompson, face multiple gun-related charges as well as charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. A third man, a 21-year-old from Calgary who was wanted on a warrant from Yellowknife, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, identity fraud, two counts each of obstruction and failure to comply with a release order.
All three were remanded into custody. RCMP said two other people — a 21-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl from Flin Flon — were detained during the operation but later released on undertakings. The investigation is ongoing, police added.
Scope of the operation and policing resources
The operation combined local investigative units with specialised provincial resources. RCMP canine services and the emergency response team were deployed, signalling investigators considered the operation high risk and involving potential violent offences or significant evidence to secure.
Police described the traffic stop on Juniper Drive as part of the targeted actions tied to the same investigation. No further details were released about how the vehicle stop related to the warrants or the broader probe.
Community and legal implications
The presence of a firearm reported stolen from Winnipeg among items seized underscores the cross-jurisdictional aspects of some criminal activity in the region. Possession for the purpose of trafficking and related firearm charges carry significant penalties under Canadian law and are treated seriously by prosecutors.
RCMP emphasised the matter remains under investigation. As is customary, charges listed by police are allegations; those charged will face a court process to determine guilt or innocence.

What comes next
Investigators will continue to gather evidence and prepare files for Crown counsel. Court appearances for the accused are expected in the coming days as the remand process proceeds, although RCMP did not provide scheduled dates.
Members of the public with information related to the investigation are asked to contact Thompson RCMP. Police did not provide a case number or additional contact details in their public statement.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by Manitoba RCMP to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs and remove firearms from communities. Officials said similar collaborative efforts between municipal and provincial units help target criminal networks operating in and beyond Thompson.
As the investigation unfolds, WE NEWS will monitor court filings and any further RCMP updates from northern Manitoba.
