The capital is braced for a busy bank holiday weekend as crowds gather for All Points East and Notting Hill Carnival, and Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail are warning of a series of planned closures and suspensions across the city’s transport network.
What is affected and when
While TfL says the majority of services will run, a number of key routes will be partially or wholly unavailable over the weekend and into the following week. Some closures are short, others longer-term maintenance projects that will affect west London commuters into the autumn.
- District line – Westbound trains will not call at Barons Court until November due to planned maintenance.
- Northern line – Friday 28 August to Saturday 29 August: no service between Camden Town and High Barnet during Friday Night Tube because of track work. From Saturday 29 August to Monday 31 August: no service between Archway and High Barnet/Mill Hill East, including during Saturday Night Tube.
- Piccadilly line – Westbound trains will not call at Barons Court until November as well.
- Weaver line – Monday 31 August to Thursday 3 September: no service between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/Cheshunt after 10.45pm due to Network Rail maintenance work.
- Windrush line – Saturday 29 August to Monday 31 August: no service between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction. Rail replacement buses will operate between Canada Water and Clapham Junction.
- DLR – Sunday 30 August to Monday 31 August: no service between Tower Gateway and Shadwell because of third-party works.
- London Trams – Until Sunday 30 August: no service between Reeves Corner and East Croydon. Also Saturday 29 August to Sunday 30 August: no service between Arena and Elmers End before 8am and after (service interruptions).

If you plan to travel to Victoria Park for All Points East or to central and west London for Notting Hill Carnival over the bank holiday, allow extra time and check live travel updates before setting out. Some sections are replaced by rail replacement buses; others have no direct alternatives and will require route changes.
- Check TfL’s live travel alerts and plan journeys using the Journey Planner before you leave.
- Allow additional time for transfers and queuing at alternative stations, especially on routes serving major event areas.
- Consider walking or cycling for short hops where feasible — both are likely to be quicker than rerouted public transport in some areas.

Night-time and weekend closures on the Northern line will disproportionately affect late-evening travellers and those relying on Night Tube services, while Network Rail’s overnight works on the Weaver line run into the following week.
