Unusual late-night burglary at Varanasi showroom; CCTV records extended stay
A man broke into a motorcycle showroom in Varanasi late on Monday night and remained inside for nearly four and a half hours before riding away on a new KTM motorcycle worth around ₹4.71 lakh, according to the showroom general manager and CCTV footage seen by police.
The incident took place at a Triumph automobile showroom. Staff had locked up and left at about 10 pm, said the showroom’s general manager, Rohit Kumar Singh. CCTV footage shows the intruder arriving at the premises at about 11.30 pm, forcing entry by cutting through the glass door, and entering at about 12.06 am.
Instead of immediately searching for valuables, the man behaved in a composed and leisurely manner inside the showroom. The footage records him switching on a reception computer, sitting in a revolving chair, taking water from the refrigerator, making hot coffee, and using the washroom for a shower. He also changed clothes and, at one point, wrapped himself in a new motorcycle cover. The man played music on the computer and was seen dancing inside the showroom.
"The staff had locked up and left for home at around 10 pm," said Rohit Kumar Singh, the showroom’s general manager.
After the extended staycation-like behaviour, the intruder turned his attention to a three-month-old KTM motorcycle that had been kept inside the showroom with its key. At around 4 am he started the KTM and rode away. The loss was noticed the following morning when the security guard discovered shattered glass and informed the manager.

The general manager described the sequence of events and the state of the missing motorcycle. Police are examining the CCTV footage and investigating the break-in, the manager said. The footage that circulated to media outlets captured the entire sequence inside the showroom and has drawn attention for the intruder’s unusually relaxed demeanour during the offence.
Local residents and business owners are likely to view the episode as a reminder of vulnerabilities to late-night crime and the need to review security arrangements, particularly at high-value dealerships. Showroom staff said the intruder changed into a branded showroom T-shirt and cap before leaving, which may complicate efforts to identify him but also provides distinct details for investigators.
The police have not released further details about arrests or leads. For now, the event remains under official inquiry with authorities analysing visual evidence and following routine investigative procedure.
Incidents involving theft from commercial premises, especially where the offender remains undetected for an extended period, pose challenges for both private security arrangements and local policing. How swiftly investigators can match the distinctive garments and the motorcycle's movements in early hours will determine the prospects of recovery and prosecution.
Residents with any information about the incident or the missing motorcycle have been urged to contact local police stations. The case underscores the practical importance of CCTV clarity, alarm systems and timely security checks for businesses housing high-value inventory in Varanasi.
