Senior MLAs hold hour-long meeting at Government Guest House
Mysuru: Three senior Congress MLAs from Mysuru district — Tanveer Sait, H.C. Mahadevappa and K. Venkatesh — met on Tuesday at the Government Guest House in Mysuru for about an hour to discuss the political fallout following the recent state Cabinet expansion, according to reports.
The meeting, described by observers as a show of unity among leaders who were left out of the newly expanded Cabinet, drew attention from party workers and political observers in the city. All three MLAs are former Ministers and convened to "chart their future course of action", the reports said.
Grievances over under‑representation
The three senior leaders expressed dissatisfaction at what they described as under‑representation of Mysuru district in the state Cabinet. After the meeting, Mr. Sait said they had discussed the political situation arising from the "confusion" over the expansion and the steps they would take in the coming days.
"We discussed the steps we should take in this regard in the coming days," Mr. Sait said, adding that the three MLAs were unanimous in their dissatisfaction over the under‑representation of Mysuru district in the Cabinet.
Mr. Sait, who has identified himself with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, told reporters the leaders were not prepared to compromise their loyalty to the party. He declined to hold any single leader responsible for the exclusion, but maintained the party leadership had not taken decisions in the interest of Mysuru district's growth and development, according to the reports.
Political alignments and local reaction
Reports indicate Mr. Mahadevappa and Mr. Venkatesh are considered camp followers of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while Mr. Sait has aligned with the current Chief Minister. Mr. Venkatesh, identified as the Periyapatna MLA, pointed out that Mysuru once had two Ministers in addition to the Chief Minister but is now represented by a lone Minister.
The meeting came against the backdrop of demonstrations by supporters of Mr. Sait. On Monday evening, his supporters staged a road blockade at Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle (Highway Circle) and held a torchlight rally from FTS Circle, the reports said.
- Purpose of meeting: discuss exclusion from the Cabinet and plan future steps
- Main concern: perceived under‑representation of Mysuru district in the state Cabinet
- Public actions: supporters of Mr. Sait held road blockades and a torchlight rally
Political observers in Mysuru said the meeting signals a consolidation of senior local leaders who feel aggrieved by recent appointments. While the three MLAs insisted they remain loyal to the party, their public show of unity and the street demonstrations by supporters underline local unrest over the distribution of ministerial berths.

Party insiders and civic observers say the developments are likely to shape local politics in Mysuru in the weeks ahead, especially as leaders seek assurances for the district's development priorities. The MLAs said they would work together to "write a new chapter for the region's progress," according to the reports.
There was no immediate official response from the state leadership in Bengaluru on the meeting. The conduct and outcome of further local mobilisation by the MLAs and their supporters will be watched closely by party strategists given Mysuru's political significance in the region.
