State rolls out blended learning pilot for Classes 6–12
Shillong, Sep 25: The Meghalaya Government on Friday announced a pilot to integrate digital and blended learning into classroom teaching in 31 government and government-aided schools across East Khasi Hills district under the Meghalaya Programme for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment and Resilience (MPOWER).
Officials said the pilot will cover both rural and urban schools and focus on introducing interactive digital resources in Mathematics and Science for students of Classes 6 to 12. The initiative is a collaboration between the state Education Department and the CK-12 Learning Platform, and aims to evaluate how technology can be feasibly and effectively embedded in varied school settings.
Teacher training and AI tools highlighted
As part of the pilot, 47 teachers and four school principals from the district have completed training in digital learning practices provided by the CK-12 partner programme, officials said. The training covered the use of interactive resources, digital classroom tools and practical applications tailored to regular teaching.
“Technology can play a meaningful role in making learning more accessible, engaging, and student-centred,” said Sampath Kumar, Project Director of MPOWER of the Meghalaya Government.
Officials added that students will gain access to interactive and adaptive content and technology-enabled tools that allow them to learn and practise at their own pace. The CK-12 platform will also make available Flexi, described as an AI-powered tutor that provides step-by-step guidance and personalised support.
How teachers will use data and adaptive tools
The partnership will enable teachers to use AI-powered features and data-driven insights to design learning activities, monitor student performance and identify areas where learners require additional support. The authorities said this will help provide targeted classroom interventions while complementing conventional teaching methods.
- Pilot schools: 31 government and government-aided institutions in East Khasi Hills.
- Trained personnel: 47 teachers and 4 principals have been trained to use digital tools.
- Targeted grades: Students in Classes 6–12 to receive digital resources in Mathematics and Science.
Implementation support and infrastructure
According to officials, the Education Department of the Meghalaya Government will facilitate school participation, while MPOWER will support implementation by ensuring necessary ICT infrastructure, including devices and connectivity. The announcement did not list the specific schools chosen for the pilot or timelines for full classroom deployment.
| Item | Number |

| Classes covered | 6–12 |
Potential benefits and limits
Officials framed the collaboration as an effort to make high-quality, personalised learning more accessible and to bring interactive resources closer to students and teachers. The adaptive content and AI tutor are intended to let learners progress at individual speeds and give teachers analytical tools to refine instruction.
However, the pilot's success will depend on on-ground factors such as sustained device availability, reliable internet connectivity, continued teacher support and monitoring of learning outcomes—details that were not specified in the announcement. The state-run MPOWER project will have a central role in addressing these logistic and technical needs during the pilot phase.
What parents and schools should expect
For parents and school administrators, officials recommend engaging with the implementing department for specific timelines and to understand how student access to devices and connectivity will be managed. The Education Department will mediate school participation and MPOWER will coordinate infrastructure support, the statement said.
The pilot aims to assess the practicalities of blended learning in distinct settings within East Khasi Hills and generate lessons for possible scale-up across the state.
