Gorakhpur: A woman from the Ramgarhtal area of Gorakhpur has lodged a formal complaint alleging physical assault by her husband during their honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and has accused her husband’s mother and sister of dowry harassment, city police said on Sunday.
FIR registered in Gorakhpur
According to the complaint, the woman named her husband, identified as Nikhil Mishra who resides in Delhi, along with his mother and sister-in-law. Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered and further action will follow the investigation, officials said.
The woman alleged that the assault occurred after she began menstruating while the couple were on their honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. She has accused her husband of slapping, kicking and punching her and of attempting to strangle her. Hotel staff intervened after hearing her screams and reportedly stopped the alleged attack, the complaint stated.
Allegations of dowry demands and humiliation
The complaint sets out a timeline of the marriage and subsequent harassment. The couple were married on 30 May 2023 at a marriage lawn in Delhi, and the woman moved to her marital home on 2 June 2023, the records show.
She alleges that, prior to the wedding, the in‑laws insisted that items provided by her family be of branded make. The complaint states that her father gave about ₹20 lakh in cash, a car and additional articles valued at approximately ₹40 lakh.
