Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will consider the grant of associate membership to the Cricket Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands at its 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held at its headquarters on Friday, according to the meeting agenda released ahead of the session.
Local body may gain formal recognition
The proposed associate membership is among several governance items on the agenda that have direct implications for cricket development in the Union Territory. Associate status typically allows a regional body access to BCCI programmes and can open channels for coaching, infrastructure support and participation in certain domestic pathways, subject to the terms decided by the national board.
IPL Governing Council appointments confirmed
The AGM will also formalise the induction of two general-body representatives into the IPL Governing Council. Arun Dhumal, the incumbent chairman of the IPL Governing Council, and Khairul Majumdar had their nominations approved by the BCCI electoral officer AK Jyoti and will be elected unopposed, the agenda notes.
- Arun Dhumal — to be re-elected as chairman of the IPL Governing Council (unopposed).
- Khairul Majumdar — to be inducted as member of the IPL Governing Council (unopposed).
ICC representation and other governance business
The board is expected to continue with Devajit Saikia as its representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC), the agenda showed. In addition, the AGM will consider the induction of a representative of the Indian Cricketers' Association to the IPL Governing Council.
Key administrative and oversight items listed for discussion include:
| Agenda item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Audited accounts for 2025-26 | Review and adoption |
| Budget for 2026-27 | Adoption of annual budget |
| Appointment of auditor | To be decided at the AGM |
| Ombudsman and Ethics Officer | Appointments to be considered |
The meeting will begin with confirmation of the minutes of the last AGM held on September 28, 2025, and will consider adoption of the secretary's report for the year 2025-26, the agenda states. Standing Committees, Cricket Committees and the Umpire Committee are also due for appointment.
Internal committee report and other compliance matters
The AGM agenda includes the report of the BCCI's Internal Committee formed under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Policy, signalling continued attention to internal compliance and workplace conduct issues. The board is also slated to take up other routine governance matters during the session.
Selection panels and pending items
The board had earlier invited applications for five positions on a junior selection committee, with the application deadline listed as September 5. It remains unclear whether the AGM will finalise appointments to that panel; the agenda lists the matter among several items for consideration.
While the AGM is expected to cover a broad slate of administrative, financial and governance issues, the inclusion of the Andaman & Nicobar application on the agenda marks a notable development for cricket in the islands, offering the local association an avenue to greater engagement with national structures if the membership is granted.
Representatives of the islands and local stakeholders will be watching decisions made in Mumbai closely, as associate membership could affect access to development programmes, coaching resources and competitive opportunities overseen or funded by the national body.
The AGM is scheduled as a routine meeting of the cricket governing body but will formalise several decisions — particularly the IPL Governing Council inductions — that had been cleared administratively in recent weeks.
