Prince Albert police and the RCMP are investigating after a quantity of policing equipment — including a service pistol — was taken from a locked hotel room shortly after midnight on Sept. 2.
What was taken and what was recovered
According to an RCMP news release, a number of items belonging to an RCMP officer were reported stolen from a secured hotel room at a property on 38th Street West. Reported missing were:
- One RCMP service pistol
- Three pistol magazines
- Two carbine magazines
- A baton
- Pepper spray
- A grey RCMP shirt and other personal items
Other gear initially reported missing but later recovered by an RCMP ground search near the hotel included a conducted energy weapon (Taser), a duty jacket and vest, a body-worn camera and a radio.

Suspects and arrests
Prince Albert city police confirmed one man has been arrested in connection with the break-in. Investigators said the incident involved three men and one woman who broke into the unoccupied room where the equipment was being stored. Police are still seeking the remaining suspects — described in the RCMP release as two more men and a woman.
“Police equipment is for police use and we work to keep it safe and secure.”
Public safety and identification guidance
Police agencies emphasised the potential risks when police clothing or equipment is taken into the wrong hands. The RCMP and city police reminded residents that if they are uncertain whether someone is a genuine police officer they should ask to see the officer’s badge and photo ID — both should display the same regimental number.
If anyone has immediate concerns about an individual claiming to be an officer, the RCMP advised contacting 310‑RCMP or 911 when it is safe to do so.
Police appeal for information
Investigators are urging anyone with information about the theft, suspicious activity near the hotel on the night of Sept. 2, or sightings of the described individuals or items to contact Prince Albert city police. Tips may help locate the missing firearms and magazines, which remain a public-safety priority.
Police have not released details about the arrested man’s identity or whether charges have been laid as the investigation continues.
