Filling unexpected gaps
The four hires follow a larger intake earlier this year when nine recruits joined the department in June after several weeks of training. The latest additions are being brought on to replace personnel who left the service unexpectedly over the summer, according to Fire Chief Erin Williams.

Because the department created an eligibility list from the previous recruitment drive, officials were able to appoint new firefighters more quickly than running a full, new competition.
