KRUGERSDORP — Two men were arrested after an extensive high-speed pursuit through Krugersdorp suburbs on 8 August, when a vehicle allegedly linked to recent burglaries and gate-motor thefts in Noordheuwel was tracked down and stopped in Kagiso, Deka Specialised Services said.
Community tips led to vehicle sighting
Deka’s operational manager, Dylan Swanepoel, said members of a local community crime-watch group had been passing on sightings of a white Toyota that they believed was connected to a string of housebreaking and gate-motor theft incidents in Noordheuwel.
"Following an extensive search on 8 August, the suspected vehicle was located in Noordheuwel, where an intense pursuit ensued," Swanepoel said. He described the driving as "extremely high speeds" and recklessly endangering other road users as the chase moved through several areas of Krugersdorp.
"The pursuit continued through various areas of Krugersdorp, with the suspects driving at extremely high speeds and recklessly and dangerously," Swanepoel said.
Vehicle stopped in Kagiso; arrests made with police assistance
According to Deka, the chase culminated in Kagiso where the vehicle was brought to a halt. Police assisted on scene and two suspects were arrested. The vehicle was secured and subsequently searched.
Items recovered from the vehicle included multiple implements and tools that Deka said are suspected to have been used in housebreaking and gate-motor thefts. Swanepoel said those items provided further evidence linking the arrested men to criminal activity.

- Outcome: Vehicle stopped, two suspects arrested, implements recovered
Local impact and policing response
The incident highlights the role of community crime groups in sharing real-time intelligence with private security providers. Swanepoel said Deka Specialised Services maintained the pursuit despite the difficult conditions and continued to provide updates on the vehicle’s movements until police could intervene.
Residents in suburbs such as Noordheuwel and Kagiso have long raised concerns about opportunistic thefts of gate motors and burglaries. Recoveries of tools and implements in this case may assist investigators in linking the suspects to specific incidents, but formal charges and further details on the suspects will be determined by the South African Police Service after processing.

What residents should know
Security experts urge residents to keep sharing verified sightings and vehicle details with both private security patrols and the SAPS, rather than engaging directly. Keeping a record of suspicious activity and, where safe, capturing images of licence plates or vehicle descriptions can be crucial for tracking suspects without escalating danger.
At a practical level the incident is a reminder to homeowners to ensure gate motors and perimeter security are maintained and to report thefts and attempted break-ins to the police so investigators can establish patterns and possibly link incidents to suspects already in custody.
The SAPS will handle further investigative steps and any formal charges. Deka said it would continue to work with community crime groups and the police to reduce the threat of organised theft in Krugersdorp.
