A fire that broke out at Boksburg Cash & Carry in Leeuwpoort Street on Thursday, 3 September was brought under control after community volunteers and multiple emergency teams worked together at the scene.
According to a report from AfriForum’s Germiston branch, the first signs of trouble were noticed at about 13:40 when a branch member saw smoke while at his workplace in Market Street and went to investigate. On arrival he found flames at the wholesaler.
By the time he arrived a fire appliance was already on the scene, but it had been redirected from an earlier incident and did not have a full supply of water. AfriForum’s Germiston branch coordinated with fire department personnel to shift stock stored on pallets away from the fire and deployed its own water tanker to support firefighting efforts. The Gauteng First Response Group was also requested to assist, and additional fire trucks reached the scene within minutes. The combined effort contained and eventually extinguished the blaze.
