Daily direct service links Rohtak to Kangra, Dharamsala and religious stops

Rohtak has been connected by a daily Haryana Roadways bus to Dharamsala after authorities launched the direct service on Monday, officials said. The scheduled bus will depart the Rohtak bus stand at 12 noon and is expected to reach Dharamsala around midnight, covering nearly 510 km. The one-way fare has been fixed at ₹827.

The new route provides direct connectivity to several religious and tourist locations en route, including Mohali, Anandpur Sahib, Una, Chintpurni, Jwala Ji and Kangra, which the roadways authority said would benefit pilgrims and leisure travellers from Rohtak and neighbouring areas.

  • Departure from Rohtak bus stand: 12 noon
  • Estimated arrival in Dharamsala: around midnight
  • Distance covered: ~510 km
  • One-way fare: ₹827
  • Service frequency: daily

Roadways officials said the timetable was approved after obtaining the necessary interstate permit. Earlier, passengers from Rohtak travelling to Dharamsala typically had to first travel to Delhi before proceeding north, the Deputy Commissioner noted.

“Many places in Dharamsala and along the route are important religious and tourist destinations, attracting a large number of visitors from Rohtak and other parts of the state. The direct bus service will provide considerable convenience to pilgrims and other travellers. The route is interstate, and the timetable has been approved after obtaining the necessary permit,” said Satbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner.

The roadways plan calls for staggered operations so that one bus will remain overnight at Dharamsala while another coach departs Rohtak the following day, ensuring regular two-way connectivity, officials added.

Former minister and senior BJP leader Manish Grover, present at the launch, described the initiative as part of a wider effort by the state government to expand bus services to important cities and religious destinations in other states. He highlighted existing services to destinations such as Shimla and Vaishno Devi and said the Dharamsala link was an addition to that network.

“Haryana Roadways bus services are being expanded to important cities and religious destinations in other states. Bus services are already available for major destinations such as Shimla and Vaishno Devi, and now, a bus service to Dharamsala is being launched,” Grover said.

Grover also said the state government was promoting cleaner buses, mentioning incentives for electric and CNG vehicles as part of pollution-reduction efforts in the future. Officials at the launch indicated that various facilities and incentives were being provided to encourage adoption of electric vehicles, though no immediate change to the new Dharamsala service's fleet was detailed in the announcement.

Transport officials said the service aims to reduce travel inconvenience for pilgrims and holidaymakers from Rohtak and surrounding districts by offering direct road connectivity to north-west Himachal Pradesh.
