Two killed, two critically injured in late-night hit-and-run near Sanganer Stadium
JAIPUR — A speeding car struck a family riding a motorcycle near Sanganer Stadium late on Sunday, killing a 35-year-old man and his three-year-old daughter and critically injuring the man's wife and son, police said. The victims were shifted to city hospitals and the suspected driver apprehended after an attempted escape, according to local authorities.
Police identified the deceased father as Vishnu, a native of Bharatpur who was residing with his family in Jaipur's Durgapura area. The family was travelling on a motorcycle when the car struck them from behind on the stretch between the Chaurdiya petrol pump and the Sangasetu culvert, near the stadium, Malpura Gate police reported.
The force of the collision threw the motorcycle and all four family members several metres along the road. The injured were rushed to SMS Hospital, where doctors declared the man and his daughter dead. The mother and younger son sustained serious injuries and are currently in critical condition, hospital authorities and police said. The bodies were taken to Jaipuria Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
"The car driver allegedly continued driving after the collision and hit six other vehicles while attempting to escape," Malpura Gate SHO Udaybhan Yadav said. "Police set up a blockade and the driver was apprehended near Haldighati Gate in Pratap Nagar."
Police said the fleeing vehicle struck multiple vehicles as the driver tried to get away. Officers deployed a checkpoint and intercepted the car near Haldighati Gate in Pratap Nagar, taking the driver into custody. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident and the driver's actions is underway, the Malpura Gate police added.
