Police increase presence at Faridabad venues; dedicated screening, rooftop surveillance in place

Faridabad, Aug 13 (PTI) — The police have tightened security across Faridabad and adjoining Gurugram ahead of Independence Day, deploying significant manpower and establishing multiple checkpoints at key locations, officials said on Thursday.

Around 4,500 police personnel — including traffic police — have been deployed across the Gurugram district, and special arrangements have been extended to secure major celebration sites and VIP routes, the police said. The multi-layered deployment includes anti-sabotage checks, dedicated frisking cabins, rooftop posts and quick reaction teams (QRTs).

  • Checkpoints: 11 checkpoints set up across the district to monitor movement and screen visitors.
  • Screening: Door-frame metal detectors and hand-held metal detectors will be used at event entry points; women visitors will be frisked by women police personnel in separate cabins.
  • Surveillance and deployment: Personnel positioned on rooftops and outer perimeters, with special surveillance of stages, parade grounds and parking areas.

A senior police officer said separate entry arrangements will be maintained for VIPs and the general public at all Independence Day functions. To ensure smooth traffic flow during VIP movements, police will manage major road cuts, traffic signals, T-junctions, flyovers and underpasses, the officer added.

"Robust security arrangements have been made for VIP protection and public safety," the police said.

Major Independence Day gatherings in the area include functions at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-38 (the district-level programme), Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Sector-43, and other venues in Sohna and Manesar. The district-level main function at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-38, will see the national flag being unfurled by Krishan Lal Middha, Deputy Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, the police noted.

Police said anti-sabotage inspections have been conducted along VIP routes and that special surveillance arrangements will be enforced in roadside and adjoining areas. Quick reaction teams and additional security personnel have been placed at VIP stages and key locations to respond to any untoward incident.

At venue entry points, visitors will be screened using metal detectors and hand-held scanners. The police emphasised gender-sensitive frisking arrangements, with women personnel assigned to screen female attendees in dedicated cabins. Surveillance will be maintained over event perimeters, including parking zones and adjoining localities, to pre-empt threats and manage crowd movement.

Traffic management measures will be implemented to facilitate VIP movements and reduce congestion for the general public. The police indicated that motorists should expect diversions or temporary restrictions at certain junctions and major thoroughfares during the ceremonies.

Authorities asked residents and attendees to cooperate with security checks and follow directions from police personnel to ensure smooth conduct of the Independence Day events. The police statement urged the public to report suspicious activity to nearby officers or helplines immediately.

The deployment and precautions reflect standard security protocols adopted at large public events and VIP ceremonies, the police said, aimed at safeguarding participants and preserving public order during the national celebrations.
