Family questions pace of probe after pedestrian killed in Faridabad hit-and-run
A Faridabad man died after being struck by a speeding car on the night of August 27, and his family has raised concerns about the speed of the police investigation and use of the city's surveillance network, according to reporting by NDTV and police records.
According to the FIR, the victim, Lakshmi Narayan Jhanwar, was walking home from a temple when a car hit him at about 8.35 pm roughly 100 metres from his house. The vehicle did not stop and the driver left the scene. Jhanwar later died from injuries sustained in the collision, the report said.
The victim's son, Amit, who works at Facebook, has publicly urged police for a thorough probe and strict action against those responsible. Amit told NDTV that CCTV footage from the area shows the car was travelling at a very high speed and that the family wants investigators to identify everyone who was in the vehicle.
Amit said: "This is the only way my father can get justice" and asked whether the sections listed in the FIR were sufficient and whether those inside the car had been identified.
Faridabad Police confirmed that an FIR was registered at Surajkund Police Station on August 28 under Sections 106 and 281 of the Indian Penal Code. Police said they called in a man named Brijesh, a resident of Mevla Maharajpur, for questioning on September 3 as part of the investigation. The vehicle allegedly involved in the incident has been seized, but no arrests have been reported so far, the police added.
Family cites city CCTV network as an investigative resource
Amit pointed to Faridabad's network of around 25,000 smart cameras, saying the footage should help identify the vehicle's occupants and establish whether any offences such as speeding, mobile-phone use while driving or drink-driving were involved. He has asked police to check whether the driver was using a phone or under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred.
- FIR registered at Surajkund Police Station on August 28 under Sections 106 and 281.
- Vehicle seized and a suspect, identified as Brijesh of Mevla Maharajpur, was questioned on September 3.
- No arrests reported to date; family demands identification of all occupants and fuller charges if warranted.
The questions raised by the family underscore tensions between public expectations about rapid results from surveillance technology and the realities of criminal investigations. Police said the probe is continuing and that it is being conducted on the basis of CCTV footage and other evidence, NDTV reported.
| Event | Date |

| Hit-and-run incident (approx. 8.35 pm) | 27 August |

Road-safety advocates and residents in Faridabad have increasingly pointed to the city's CCTV investment as a tool not only for crime detection but also for traffic enforcement. Amit argued that the footage should be used comprehensively — to establish vehicle speed, number of occupants and the behaviour of the driver before and after the collision.
Police statements quoted by NDTV set out steps already taken—registration of an FIR, seizure of the vehicle and questioning of a person of interest—but gave no timeline for arrests or final charges. The family has asked the Faridabad Police to consider whether additional sections should be added to the FIR as evidence emerges.
The case highlights two issues likely to concern Faridabad residents: the effectiveness of CCTV networks in producing timely outcomes and the pace of local traffic-accident investigations. For now the police maintain the probe is ongoing and rely on technological and forensic leads; the bereaved family continues to press for swifter action and fuller accountability.
