District eases renewal for Destination Parks pass holders

The District of West Vancouver is reminding residents that annual parking passes for the Destination Parks Pay Parking Program can be renewed online or in person, and it will host a drop-in registration session at Municipal Hall at the end of August.

The program covers several of the district’s busiest shore and forest green spaces. Residents who hold or wish to obtain a free annual pass can apply through the program’s online portal or attend a staffed registration event where customer service representatives will help with the process.

What the pass covers and how long it’s valid

The Destination Parks Pay Parking Program applies to the following recreation sites in West Vancouver:

  • Lighthouse Park
  • Whyte Lake / Nelson Canyon
  • Whytecliff Park
  • Cypress Falls
  • Seaview Walk
  • Ambleside Park

Each pass is issued to a single vehicle or licence plate and is valid for 365 days from the date it is approved. The District’s news release notes that the passes are available to residents at no charge and there is no limit on how many passes a household may obtain.

How to renew or apply

Residents will receive a renewal reminder email at the beginning of the month when their pass is due to expire. To renew or to apply for a new pass online, users must log into their hangTag account at impark.com/westvan.

For those who prefer in-person help or who need assistance with smartphone or account set-up, the District has arranged a staffed session:

  • Date: Monday, Aug. 31
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Location: Municipal Hall, 750 17th Street — Raven Room
“Residents are eligible for an annual parking pass at no cost.”

Impark customer service staff will be on site to assist with applications. Applicants are required to bring proof of current vehicle registration that shows a West Vancouver address and are encouraged to bring a smartphone or tablet to complete the online registration while at the event.

Why this matters locally

The Destination Parks Pay Parking Program is one of the district’s tools to manage parking pressure at popular outdoor sites. For residents who frequent these parks — from the rocky headlands of Lighthouse to the forested trails around Whyte Lake — having a valid pass eliminates uncertainty about daily fees and supports predictable access.

Offering both a digital renewal option and an in-person help session recognises that residents have differing levels of comfort with online services. It also reflects broader municipal efforts to balance digital service delivery with accessible, face-to-face customer support for those who need it.

The dual approach to renewals aims to keep the system efficient while ensuring equitable access for those who prefer or require in-person support.
